Biography

Early life

Suleiman was born in Trabzon, as the son of Selim I and Valide Sultan Ayşe Hafsa Sultan, on presumably 6 November 1494. When he was seven years old, he was sent to the schools of Topkapı Palace in Constantinople to study history, science, theology, literature and military tactics. Around this time, he befriended the slave Pargalı Ibrahim, who would be by his side for a long time of his life.[1]

At the age of 17, Suleiman was installed as the governer of Kaffa. In 1511, while on a boat to Constantinople, Suleiman met Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the leader of the Italian Assassins, and made Ezio believe he was a student.[2]

Later, while attending a party in Topkapı Palace, Suleiman was rescued by Ezio Auditore and Yusuf Tazim; the leader of the Ottoman Assassins; who were both disguised as entertainers, from an assassination attempt by the Templars, after which he became an ally of the Assassin Order.[2]

Death

Suleiman died in 1566 during the Siege of Szigetvár in the Kingdom of Hungary.[1]
