Sofia Sartor

Sofia Sartor (born 1476) was a Venetian-Ottoman bookseller living in Constantinople during the 16th century. During her time in Constantinople, she befriended Ezio Auditore, the Grand Master of the Assassin Order and later became his wife.

Biography

Early life

Sofia was born in Constantinople, as a girl with a taste for knowledge and a fondness for books. However, during the Venetian-Turk wars, she fled with her parents to Venice.

Life in Constantinople

Sofia returned Constantinople, wanting to spread knowledge amongst the poor Ottoman people. Unbeknownst to her, however, the building she inhabited was the old trading post of Niccolò Polo, the father of Marco Polo and individual who played a vital role in the Assassin Order.

In 1511, she met Ezio Auditore da Firenze, the Grand Master of the Assassin Order, who was on a search for the seals of the legendary Assassin Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, which Niccolò and Maffeo Polo spread throughout Constantinople. Sofia, charmed by Ezio, allowed him to look around her home when he eventually found a secret entrance. Ezio entered it, and returned with a seal and an encrypted map. Sofia, not knowing of Ezio's Assassin affiliations, helped him decode the map.

Settling down

Sofia later settled down with Ezio in Florence. Together, they had two children: a boy named Marcello and a daughter named Flavia.

Personality

Sofia had a thirst for knowledge and desired to spread that knowledge to the poor people of the Ottoman Empire. Upon their first meeting, Ezio instantly felt a connection to the woman, yet could not bring himself to tell her the truth about his true identity.

• Sofia's appearance is based on Albrecht Dürer's painting Portrait of a Young Venetian Woman.
• All Keys of Altaïr are found and accessed through Sofia.
• 'Sofia' is a name of Greek origin, which means 'Wisdom'.
