Argyll is a shire and a county in western Scotland.
History
During the Viking invasion throughout the isles, villages of Argyll were often raided by Vikings and in response, witch-warriors guarded and protected it people from the invaders. During a raid on one of the communities, a young Celtic girl named Niamh burned down the raiders' longship, which sent the Vikings to retreat into the dangerous wilderness. Following in her mother's footsteps, Niamh grew up to be the witch-warrior of her village, protecting and aiding its people in their times of need.[1]
In 878, Niamh was peacefully meditating and being one with nature, until her apprentice, Birdie, came to find her. Birdie hands Niamh two letters as they dictated Niamh to become a spy for her people and the Women of the Mist of Avalon. The letter further states that Niamh had to go under the name of Nimue and infiltrate the organization, the Hidden Ones, and find their true intentions. Without any thought, Niamh, accompanied by Birdie, prepared themselves and planned to venture into Lunden, Mercia, to investigate the Hidden Ones.[1]
Behind the scenes
The name, Argyll, is derived by Old Gaelic phrase airer Goídel, which translate to the border region of Gaels.[2]
