Mahaut was a nun and a member of the Frankish Hidden Ones, acting as the leader of the Chinon Bureau during the 9th century CE.
In 870, Mahaut received a letter from her old friend Basim Ibn Ishaq asking for assistance in Antioch to fight a resurgence of the Order of the Ancients as well as a report on increased Viking activities. She then decided to send Aline to learn more about the Norse folk, while sending her two other acolytes, Matthias and Oisel, to assist Basim in the Levant.[1]
