Assassin's Creed III: Liberation is a 2012 video game developed in partnership by Abstergo Entertainment and Ubisoft. The game follows the story of Aveline de Grandpré, daughter of the wealthy French merchant Philippe Olivier de Grandpré and his placée bride Jeanne.[1]

Compiled from recordings collected from Subject 1,[2] the game presents a very idealised and censored view of Aveline's life, portraying her as a traitor to the Assassin Order; in response to this, the hacking collective known as Erudito actively worked to re-introduce the truth into the game, allowing the player to view the full extent of Aveline's genetic memories.[1]

By 2013, Liberation was such a success that it prompted Abstergo Industries to expand their entertainment branch to Montreal and hire research analysts for their next project.[3]
