Kannoji Temple was a Buddhist temple located in Sumoto in Awaji, Japan.
History[edit | edit source]
In 1585, the Kakushiba ikki member and Igan shinobi Fujibayashi Naoe sought out bō master Taguchi Myoga, an ally of her mother and Master Assassin Tsuyu, for the location of her mother's key for one of the Imperial Regalia, the Sword. Just outside the temple, Naoe found Myoga and discussed the key. However, Myoga informed her that she must learn how to handle the bō and prove herself as a Fujibayashi. When Naoe sparred well against one of his students, Myoga challenged Naoe to a duel. Ultimately, Naoe bested the master in a duel. Impressed, Myoga informed Naoe that he buried the key near the Mountainside Ruins. Before leaving, Naoe acquired a trinket, Elegance Defined, from Myoga.[1]
Later, after having killed the Japanese Templar Kimura Yukari[2] and then returned the Sword to Emperor Ōgimachi,[3] Naoe and her fellow Kakushiba ikki member Yasuke returned to Awaji and met with their ally Konatsu, who informed them of the remaining Sanzoku Ippa operatives still terrorizing the locals.[4]
Agreeing to help, Naoe and Yasuke soon tracked down two of Nowaki's remaining shinobi Chiba Hachibei and Suganuma Tenma just north of the temple. There, they assassinated Hachibei and Tenma, acquired the spare kusarigama Snake's Tooth and Deathdealer Mask, respectively, and learned of the locations of two of Yasuhira's remaining spies, one at Kamaguchi Village and another at Sumoto Docks.[4] While at the temple, the pair retrieved three lost pages scattered across its grounds.[5]
