Igzi

Igzi was a Nara woman who lived north of the Aksumite Kingdom in the 9th century.

Biography

After Igzi's husband was killed in one of General Endubis' village raids in the region, she gathered other widows and formed a war-band, leading them towards the general's stronghold at the Church of Abuna Yemata, hoping to kill him and free the people he had forcibly conscripted. On the way, Igzi and her warriors arrived at site of a massacre, where they met Roshan, Fuladh, and Nibris, who joined them once they realized they had common cause.[1]

Arriving at the foot of the mountain near dawn, Igzi laid out the plan: she and her warriors would take out the guards from below loud enough to distract the others and buy the trio time to climb up to the church and find the general.[1] After some time, Roshan rejoined them, along with the workers liberated from the stronghold, in time to notice a group with weapons haling from the Abbasid Caliphate approaching the church. These men, former slaves in disguise led by Dagnajan, joined up with Igzi and Roshan to defeat the last of Endubis' soldiers.[2]
