Kapalıçarşı was a large covered market in Constantinople.

History

The Kapalıçarşı opened to the public in 1461 and was very popular with food, spices, pottery, fabric and many more. It is one of the largest covered markets in the world with over 250,000 and a half million visitors daily. It was a very famous Turkish land mark and shopping place in the Ottoman Empire. It was vastly enlarged during the reign of Suleiman the Magnificent.

Trivia

  • The name means "Covered Bazaar" (Turkish: Kapalıçarşı) and was one of the largest covered markets in the world.
  • Kapalıçarşı was seen in the Assassin's Creed Revelations E3 Demo when Ezio walks through it to get to the Great Chain.=
