Aekuni Shrine is a Shinto shrine in the city of Iga,[1] which served as the Ichinomiya of the province during the Sengoku period.[2]

History

The shrine served as the assembly point of the Iga ikki during the 16th century, where they would meet to renew their vows to their league. On 30 September 1581, Naoe, the daughter of jonin Fujibayashi Nagato, attended her first assembly at the shrine since joining the league in 1579. As the assembly went underway, the Igans were interrupted by the arrival of Hattori Hanzō, who warned the league of Oda Nobunaga's impending invasion.[3]
