These lines do not follow blood vessels, indeed, the markings on the back are straight and angular. Their designs look slightly like circuit boards, and their perfectly angular, symmetrical design makes a natural origin less likely. Since The Truth is a memory recorded by The Animus instead of a video, Subject 16 must be a descendant of Adam. The video proves that the story of Adam and Eve and The Garden of Eden is true. The couple appear to have disobeyed their masters by stealing a Piece of Eden - specifically, one of the Apples which presumably has given them immunity to hypnotism. The theft of the artifact could have been the first act of defiance which caused the conflict as described by Minerva. The "innocence" of mankind was lost when they realized that the superiority of Those Who Have Gone Before was due to their technological advances. This prompted a war between the two species. Subject 16's record also shows that the artifacts (the Staff, the Apple, the Pieces of Eden) were tools that the First Civilization used to wield power over humans. Whether the artifacts were made to control humans, or if humans were made to obey the artifacts, is another matter. Even so, some are immune to their effects.
