Timgad was a Roman city in Algeria, built to the specifications of classic Roman towns of Italy. Founded by Trajan in 100 CE, it was abandoned around the time of the 6th century and forgotten after the Muslim conquest of the Maghreb.[1]
During his latter years, Leonardo da Vinci, with the aid of Thomas More, selected this location as a haven, a secretive location conducive to the construction of an Assassin refuge meant to train and initiate apprentices. Within a month of his death on 2 May 1519,[2] the Assassins managed to decipher the clues he left behind and uncovered the site.[3]
