Azai Nagamasa (浅井 長政, 1545 – 1573) was a Japanese daimyō who lived in Ōmi Province. In 1564,[1] Nagamasa married Oda Nobunaga's younger sister Oichi,[2] with whom he would father three daughters.[1] In 1570, due to a multi-generational alliance relationship with the Asakura clan, Nagamasa attacked his brother-in-law's forces as they attempted to besiege the Asakura's main stronghold at Kanagasaki Castle. Nobunaga was forced to retreat and felt personally betrayed by Nagamasa, whom he had considered part of the family.[2]
