'''Haytham E. Kenway''' (1725 - 1781) was the first [[Grand Master]] of the [[Templars|Templar Order]]'s Colonial Rite, reigning from 1754 until his death.

Born to the [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Edward Kenway]], Haytham was converted to the Templar cause early on by [[Reginald Birch]]. After being sent to America to locate a suspected [[First Civilization]] [[Grand Temple|storehouse]], Haytham remained and established a permanent Templar presence in the British colonies. Later on, he unknowingly sired a [[Ratonhnhaké:ton|son]] with the [[Kanien'kehá:ka]] woman [[Kaniehtí:io]], whom he had met in his original quest for the storehouse. As such, he was an ancestor to [[Desmond Miles]].
However, there are some editors who think they can out-smart the system by adding random spaces, periods and nonsense to articles.

==Biography==
We, the writers of this guide, know that some users may not know they are '''breaking the rules'''. It is heavily encouraged that all users should read this guide first before being warned or having their points taken from them.
===Early life===
{{Quote|It is a requirement when you are raised in the manner that I was. Perception is fundamental to the Order. It guides the feet when running and climbing. Informs the hands when striking and fighting. But most important, it transforms the senses. And we begin to know the world in a different way.|Haytham discussing his training to [[Charles Lee]].|Assassin's Creed III}}

Haytham was born in England in the year 1725, as the second child to the Assassin Edward Kenway and his second wife [[Tessa Kenway]]. Unbeknownst to him, Haytham was trained to become an Assassin by his father from an early age. During this time, Haytham was tutored how to use a sword, despite barely being six years old. He was also encouraged to think for himself, and dispute others' opinions.
#==Punishable offenses to the Achievement System==
#===Saving page constantly:===
Most heavily used on the [[Timeline]] pages; adding overused links, one or two periods, random spaces or adding 'st' or 'th' to date numbers on a page using the 'separation technique' (see example) is a bannable offense. Besides over-use of links, all of those others aren't bad and can make a page look good sometimes, but when you add periods or fix up date numbers be sure to edit them as a group, using the 'group technique' and not to use the 'separation technique' (shown below)!

On his eighth birthday, Haytham's family was walking home from a trip to {{Wiki|White's|White's Chocolate House}} on Chesterfield Street, when the group were attacked by a mugger. Reginald Birch, who was also with them, threatened to kill the man, whose attempt to rob Tessa of her necklace had failed. However, he was dissuaded by Edward, who was infuriated at Reginald's harsh vigilantism. When Haytham returned home that day, Edward asked his son whether he thought that the thief should have been allowed to go free. At first, Haytham replied that he initially held feelings to enact revenge, but would have offered the man clemency, to which he was presented with a steel short sword, that he later used in his life as a [[Templars|Templar]].
#====Separation technique and group technique====
If an editor performs the example listed below (known as the 'separation technique'), they can and will be punished:

On 3 December 1735, there was an attack on Haytham's London home in {{Wiki|Queen Square, London|Queen Anne's Square}} when he was still young, during which his father, his sole friend Tom Barrett, and some of the house's servants were killed. Accompanying this, his half-sister Jenny was abducted, and a journal of his father's was taken.
<pre> Click edit on one sub-heading > Add 'st' to 1st of Janurary > Save Page > Click edit on another sub-heading > Add 'th' to 4th of March > Save Page > Etc, etc. </pre> - Vice Versa with periods, linkage, etc...

This event was when Haytham made his first kill, against one of the infiltrators, though it unfortunately soured his mother's perception of him. Soon after, Haytham was approached by the Grand Master of the Templar Order's British Rite, Reginald Birch; who worked as his father's senior property manager and happened to be courting Jenny. Following this, he was given leave by his mother to be trained in Europe by Birch, who tutored him in the Templars' ways.
This exploit is a bannable offense and can result in a user's loss of points.

As a member of the Templar Order, Haytham became distant acquaintances with [[Edward Braddock]], a fellow Templar and a soldier in the [[British Army]]. They both participated in the {{Wiki|Siege of Bergen op Zoom (1747)|Siege of Bergen op Zoom}}, where Braddock's violent attitude became evident. After Braddock brutally murdered several innocents, the two had a falling out and Braddock left the Templar Order forever.
Instead, the editor should scroll to the top of the page, and click ''''Edit This Page''''. This will show the editor the whole page to edit as a group (i.e. 'group technique') and '''''not''''' individually with sub-headings, if they edit by adding to multiple sub-headings using the 'separation technique', even on the '''same article''', those small edits will count as different contributions and give the user a high edit count and badges for '''nothing''', the main reason why it is against the rules.

During a mission to kidnap a young rebel named Lucio, Haytham encountered the Assassin Miko, who was assigned to protect Lucio, and after being ambushed by the Assassin, lost his treasured short sword. The fight ended when Haytham pulled Miko into a cave, but was subsequently dragged in along with him, resulting in Miko grabbing hold of a rope and Haytham's arm to prevent himself from falling into a steep drop. Haytham, however, untied Miko's hidden blade from his arm and bit his hand, causing Miko to fall into the drop. Miko, however, survived and upon Haytham's suggestion, fled to fight another day. Haytham, having the Assassin's Hidden Blade to compensate for his lost sword, then brought Lucio to Reginald so that Birch could blackmail Lucio's mother into decoding the journal that Haytham retrieved from Juan Vedomir.
The example below is editing as a group using the 'group technique', this is what you are supposed to do, and is not a bannable offense.

#===Removing and adding imagery:===
In the year 1754, Haytham attended the musical ''{{Wiki|The Beggar's Opera}}'', by John Gay, in the [[Theatre Royal]] in [[London]]. Although lamenting the fact that he had never been able to see the play through to the end, Haytham's true purpose there was to obtain a "precursor" [[Grand Temple Key|artifact]] from an attending patron and member of the Assassin Order, [[Miko]]. After obtaining the artifact and assassinating the owner, he fled the opera house and met once more with his co-conspirators.
Removing an image off a page, then saving the page, then adding it back in an effort to get points will result in you actually ''losing'' points. It is a '''bannable offense''' to do this and you ''will'' be caught.

From there, he was chartered [[Providence|a ship]] to [[Boston]], and ordered to locate a suspected First Civilization storehouse in the region; he would then set about organizing an official presence for the Templars in the New World.

[[File:Journey_to_the_New_World_8.png|thumb|left|250px|Samuel Smythe talking with Haytham.]]
On the second day of his journey, Haytham partook in a fight with some of the crew members, [[Hector Graves]] being the main assailant. After defeating him and a man known as Quill, he was taken to the captain's quarters to speak with [[Samuel Smythe]], the captain of the ship. There, he learned that some of the crew members were potentially planning a mutiny; Smythe reminded Haytham that such a revolt would rule out his ever reaching the Colonies, and so he agreed to investigate.

On the twenty-eighth day of his journey, Haytham sped up his investigation by request of the increasingly worried captain. After asking the cook and doctor about information regarding peculiar actions, he was referred to a man named [[James Fairweather]]. James told him that crew members had been gathering above deck and quietly conversing about things that he believed "boded ill". After a splashing sound was heard, Haytham went below deck and discovered that painted barrels had been thrown overboard.
#===A list of other offenses involving the Achievement System:===
*'''Adding nonsense to pages, then removing it yourself.'''
*'''Editing an article, using multiple sub-headings instead of grouping the edit.'''
*'''Constant postings of blogs that have been done before.'''
*'''Removing categories, then re-adding them and vice versa.'''

On the thirty-third day of his journey, Haytham spoke with the captain about the marked barrels being thrown overboard on a daily basis, determining that they were a marker to leave a trail for another ship. Seconds later, a boat was sighted that attacked the ''Providence''. Following this, the captain sent him below deck, where Haytham came into contact with [[Louis Mills]]. Mills revealed that he had been the one throwing the marked barrels overboard, and that he was in fact an associate of the Assassin Order; he had pursued Kenway once word of the murder in the Theatre Royal reached him. The two engaged in combat and Mills was struck down by Kenway.
You may be wondering how a cheat is caught, since his/her edit is lost in a mass of other edits.

Everytime a user makes an edit in this wiki it is '''logged''' and can be '''tracked back''' to the user, so think twice before abusing the achievement system.
Haytham returned above deck and forced Smythe to lead his ship into an approaching storm, so as to lose the pursuing vessel. During the storm, Haytham helped to secure the ships rigging before flying the foremast to quicken the ship. After lightning snapped the main mast and left James hanging from a rope, Haytham continued to quickly save the man just as the attacking ship had sunk, having also been struck by lightning.

On the seventy-second day, Haytham reached Boston, where he met his first assistant and recruit, [[Charles Lee]], who gave him a short tour of the city. During the tour, Haytham met [[Benjamin Franklin]], and discovered that some of his almanac's pages were missing. He also met his first partner, [[William Johnson]], at the [[Green Dragon Tavern]].
==Article rules==
{{Policy|Adhere to the following guidelines when creating and writing articles.}}
Mainly in accordance with community vote, the '''Assassin's Creed Wiki''' has various rules and guidelines about article construction and naming. These are addressed in the following list:

===Gathering the colonial Templars===
;Images
{{Quote|...Upon this paper are the names of five men sympathetic to our cause. Each is also uniquely suited to aid you in your endeavor. With them at your side, you will want nothing.|Reginald Birch giving Haytham the names of the Templars in the colonies.|Assassin's Creed III}}

#Images, when not featured in a gallery, must always be in thumbnails.
Now, effectively Grand Master of the Templar Order in the Colonies, Haytham's first aim was to unite his new partners so that they could locate the storehouse. After meeting Johnson, he learned that some of his work had been stolen in a robbery. Leaving to find Johnson's man, [[Thomas Hickey]], who was also on his list of loyal Templars, Haytham searched for those responsible. After finding Hickey and receiving an explanation, Haytham, with the help of Charles and Thomas, infiltrated a mercenary fort and located the papers. Thomas and Haytham then killed the attacking soldiers while Charles carried the chest that contained Johnson's information.
#In relation to secondary clauses in image descriptions, punctuation – such as commas, colons, semi-colons and dashes – are acceptable, though periods are discouraged.

Learning that the research would not be of much use in the situation, Haytham went to find his other partners, beginning with [[Benjamin Church]]. After he visited Church's home, Haytham learned that there had been a raid, and that Church had been taken during it. He then continued to conduct an investigation with Charles, in which he eavesdropped on the conversations of Benjamin's neighbors. The first one informed Haytham that Church had been taken somewhere in north-eastern [[Boston]]. Following that, he went to the top of a church to view the rest of the city for other prospects. The second eavesdrop informed him of relatively nothing, and was a conversation between two British Regulars. The third, also a conversation between two Regulars informed Haytham that Church was in debt to someone, and that a man named "Cutter" was included in this group, planning to torture or kill Benjamin. The fourth, between two civilians, informed Haytham that the group that captured Church had taken him to the top of a hill, at a fort that had a doctor.
;Article naming and organization
#Article names for landmarks must be written in English, in accordance with the Wiki's chosen language to maintain consistency, and native translations must be featured at the start of the article in brackets. Any alternative translations not featured in an Assassin's Creed medium are strictly not allowed.
#Categories must maintain a certain structure, mainly addressed by relevancy. See the following example:
##''Featured Articles, 1459 births, 1524 deaths, Individuals, Italians, Couriers, Farmers, Auditore family, Assassins, Master Assassins, Mentors, Individuals with Eagle Vision, Individuals who held Pieces of Eden, Ancestors of Desmond Miles, Ancestors of Clay Kaczmarek''
#Use edit summaries wherever possible. When undoing reverts, always list a reason. Edit summaries are not to be used to hold conversations.

After obtaining this information, Haytham met with Charles once more to locate Church near to the water-front beside the fort, slipping by undetected to a locked door at the edge. Silently, he stole a key from one of the nearby Regulars and opened the door to the building. Entering with Lee, he found Church tied to a chair, surrounded by a few British Regulars, and being interrogated by a man named [[Silas Thatcher]], who was in charge of [[Southgate Fort]]. After Silas left, Lee and Haytham silently killed the soldiers and Cutter before freeing Church and going back to the Green Dragon Tavern.

Next, he went to retrieve another man on his list, [[John Pitcairn]], from General Edward Braddock at the [[Copp's Hill Battery]] inside of Boston. After having sneaked in with the help of Lee, he located Pitcairn near the end of the battery, speaking with Braddock about mistakes. When Haytham attempted to take Pitcairn with him, Braddock refused, and sent him and Charles away. Later, he quickly tricked Braddock and his men into a dead end and slaughtered most of them, humiliating the General before stealing Pitcairn. Following this, Haytham took Pitcairn with him to the tavern and spoke with his partners.
#'''Behave normally.''' You will never be asked to be "nice" or not use foul language. This is common decency. Repeated violation is grounds for sanctions.
#'''No complaining to other users.''' Users who ask for something from another wiki user and are refused it should not fill the wiki with complaining, which is grounds for sanctions. It is acceptable to be persistent, but ''in a mature manner.''
#'''Refrain from discussing real-world politics and/or religion in community forums or blogs.''' More often than not these result in unwanted arguments or bad discussions.
#'''Assassin's Creed Wiki's official language: [[Wikipedia:English language|English]].''' We don't care if it's British or American, as long as it's not "L33t" or "TXT." Abbreviations are fine, but keep it within reason.
#'''Stay on-topic.''' Don't sidetrack a conversation on an unrelated talk page, blog or forum. Start a new place of discussion if you want to talk about another subject or discuss it on a user's talk page.
#'''No spamming.''' The meaning should be obvious. Don't say the same thing six times because no one is responding to you. Don't keep pushing a subject nobody is interested in.
#'''Not being aware does not make you exempt.''' It is your own responsibility to make sure you are following the rules. Not knowing about them does not mean you can violate the rules.

After gathering his new co-conspirators, Haytham planned an infiltration on Southgate Fort, so that he could free the Native American slaves there in order to discover where the First Civilization storehouse was. Locating a convoy, he and his partners ambushed it, slaughtering all of the Regulars and dressing in their garb. Using the tactic of the Trojan horse, Haytham sneaked his men into the fort, freed the slaves within, killed the fort's general, and wounded Silas so that he could be shot by Church.
Violation of these guidelines is grounds for warnings. Repeated warnings or major violations may result in blocks of unspecified length. Repeated blocks will result in a permanent ban. Please consult an [[Assassin's Creed Wiki:Staff|administrator or moderator]] if you have any questions.

Six months after the death of Silas, Haytham had successfully had his partners track down a woman that they had freed in the attack, a native who had appeared to have some sort of command. In the snow, he located her by following tracks she had left behind, and chased her through the Frontier on the ground while she ran through the trees. When he finally caught up to her, they spoke about the 'key' and if she knew where the storehouse was. Telling him to meet her at a nearby hill, she left, and he eventually followed.
The following is the official '''''Assassin's Creed Wiki'' Image policy'''. The policy dictates requirements for sourcing images and information about the usage of images on the ''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki. In the Wiki's never-ending quest to improve the quality of information provided to our users, it is important that the Wiki follows not only the basic copyright laws required of it, but that we stringently restrict the flow of unused, low quality and purposeless images being brought onto the site. In order to achieve these aims, it is absolutely required that all images uploaded to the Assassin's Creed Wiki be properly sourced and licensed using the appropriate copyright template when uploading an image. The original source must always be used, meaning members must cite the original source rather than the website where they found the image, assuming that a member of said website did not create the image themselves.
The policy also requires that permission from the original artist/photographer be obtained, whenever possible, before the image is uploaded. If permission is not obtained or images are not properly sourced then the uploader is essentially stealing, hence why this policy was enacted.

When he met her at the hilltop, she told him about soldiers in the nearby tavern that wished to drive her people away, and that they were led by Edward Braddock, the Bulldog. He suggested that they stop the soldiers, coming up with a plan to kill Braddock. After entering the tavern, he began eavesdropping on some regulars, which informed him of Braddock's plans to go on an 'expedition'. The second group of regulars he listened to informed him that Braddock was already at the 'advanced' camp, preparing to fight French soldiers. Just as he attempted to leave the tavern, he was brought into a bar-fight with some of the Regulars, making short work of them with a minor face injury. The woman, [[Kaniehtí:io]], quickly cleaned it for him. She then left, telling Haytham to meet her at the camp.
#==Sourcing==
#===Guidelines===
All images uploaded to the ''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki must be sourced with the original source rather than any website that the image may have been found on. For example, an image of [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] may have been found on a website containing a gallery of Assassin's Creed images, but that is not a proper image source to put. Instead, the image should be sourced to the media it originally came from, be it a game, novel or concept art. Likewise, screenshots taken from videos posted on YouTube and similar sites must also be sourced to the original media.

[[File:ACIII-Execution_6.png|thumb|250px|Haytham and Kaniehtí:io looking at the map.]]
It is a legal requirement that images uploaded under [[Template:Fairuse|Fair Use]] serve a function. As such, images cannot be uploaded solely for inclusion in a gallery ''unless'' the gallery is integral to the function of the article. For example, the images in [[Tiber Island headquarters]] serve to provide a visual representation of the location in question; each image is unique and depicts a different part of that location. The inclusion of another image of [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] solely for use in the gallery is not permitted, as there is already an ample supply of images depicting his character in use.
Haytham quickly followed, meeting the woman outside of the British campsite of Fort St. Mathieau while deep in the blizzard. Sneaking into a supply cart, he hid until entering the walls of the fort. After getting into the camp, Haytham silently went through the area, breaking the two cannons before starting to eavesdrop on a conversation between the young [[George Washington]] and a Regular officer. Listening, he learned that Braddock refused a truce to end the French and Indian War, and was rallying troops before he would take a trip to Fort Duquesne, and that a copy of the plans was inside of the Command Tent. Haytham quickly stole them and left the fort, taking them to Kaniehtí:io and discussing a plan to ambush the soldiers beside the Allegheny (or Monongahela) river.

#====Proper names, subtitles and watermarks====
{{Quote|Your death opens a door. It's nothing personal. Well, maybe it is a LITTLE personal. You've been a pain in my arse, after all.|Haytham speaking to Braddock after catching up to the latter.|Assassin's Creed III}}
Images should be uploaded under a proper name that accurately describes the contents of the file. For example, [[:File:Daniel Cross-The Fall1.jpg]] is fine, as it simply informs the reader of the contents of the image. [:File:639c39706e7a090c2693753600d47d86.png] is ''not'' acceptable, as it falls under the category of improper names and does not simply describe the contents of the image.
[[File:ACIII-BraddockExpedition_12.png|thumb|left|250px|Haytham killing Braddock.]]
A few months later, Haytham rallied his co-conspirators to met with Kaniehtí:io near the edge of the river. After speaking with her, they waited in the planned hiding point for Braddock and his men to pass by. Creating a quick plan of deception, Haytham goes and assassinates one of the regulars, taking the man's outfit to hide within it and sneak up to Braddock's side. Witnessing Braddock kill one of his men, he waited a moment before riding close to the General. Following a failed attack from a French soldier, the Bulldog rode off and Haytham was forced to ride after him. When a tree fell before Braddock, the Bulldog fell back, allowing Haytham to catch up with him. Just as he was about to shoot, Washington killed the horse beneath him. To save him, Kaniehtí:io tackled Washington from his horse, and Haytham rose to chase after Braddock again on foot.

[[File:ACIII-BraddockExpedition_15.png|thumb|250px|Haytham standing by the door to the Grand Temple.]]
Images should, wherever possible, avoid featuring subtitles.
Haytham chased him until he was able to assassinate him, after which he took Braddock's ring from his finger and went with Kaniehtí:io to the storehouse. Having reached it, Haytham attempted to open the door with his key, unable to do so because it was the incorrect [[Pieces of Eden|Piece of Eden]]. Then, he had a romantic moment with Kaniehtí:io. Following this, he met with his co-conspirators again, plotting the future of the Templar Order in the Colonies, and inducting Lee as an official [[Templars|Templar]]. Later, he would have another moment with Kaniehtí:io, which would eventually lead to the birth of [[Assassins|Assassin]] [[Ratonhnhaké:ton]].

Haytham was present in Boston in 1770 with an agent who was watching as the civilians began to revolt against the British soldiers due to the various taxes the Crown had put into motion. As the crowd began to get worse, he sent one of his agents to the rooftops to provoke the troops to open fire. Unaware that his agent was being followed by his own son. When the agent was killed by Connor, Charles Lee shot his pistol into the air, the soldiers began to open fire on the civilians, but Haytham pointed out his son to one of the leading soldiers. As they chased Connor, Haytham and Charles quickly departed.

After both William Johnson and John Pitcairn died, Haytham instructed Thomas Hickey to murder George Washington after Lee was turned down for Commander and Chief. Hickey's plan was foiled by Connor who exposed him while he was running a counterfeiting ring in [[New York]]. Both men were captured and thrown into [[Bridewell Prison]]. He accompanied Lee to the prison, where Thomas was released from a cell next to his son, to be moved to a different part of Birdewell. Haytham reprimanded Hickey, and told Charles to handle things from here as he left the prison. During the time of Connor and Thomas' imprisonment, Haytham and Charles managed to convince the judge to execute Connor rather then put him on trial.

[[File:Missing_Supplies_3.png|thumb|left|250px|Haytham proposing a truce.]]
In 1777, Haytham was in search of the former Templar Benjamin Church, who had deserted the Order before being sent to prison for treason against the Continental Army. Slightly outside of the Continental fort in [[Valley Forge]], Pennsylvania, Haytham had tracked the traitor to a small church. After an investigation, he determined that he had reached them too late, but had stayed nonetheless to wait and see if someone would appear. To his surprise, Haytham had taken a leap onto his son, Connor, who he barely knew existed, instead of one of Church’s men. After a slight brawl with the Assassin, he revealed that he too was searching for Church. Haytham suggested a truce, given that while they were searching for Benjamin for different reasons, their shared goal was to find him. Connor silently agreed, and the pair departed the building.

Not long later, Connor had begun to track the location of Church’s mercenaries through the snow, while Haytham followed. When the two had found one of the men by a broken cart of Continental supplies and captured him, there was a quick interrogation that ended with Haytham shooting the man, much to the dismay of his son. Then, he ordered Connor to infiltrate the camp that they had discovered from the man while he secretly sneaked a different route, which ultimately led in his capture. Connor, who quickly came to the rescue, was left behind to kill the other soldiers, while Haytham went to make plans in [[New York]].
#===The games and Google===
Ambiguous terms such as "The games", "Ubisoft", "Google" and "Yahoo Images" are not acceptable for use as image sources, despite the fact that users may find images for our articles from those locations. Simply stating “Google” as a source is not acceptable and will be grounds for the deletion of the offending image. Likewise, linking to the website that the user found the image on is also not acceptable, as they are not the original source.

A month later, when Connor had finally made his way to the city, Haytham led them atop the rooftops to where Church’s location had been stated to be. In one exchange, he revealed he had spared Connor out of ‘curiosity’, and that he was not so different from those that his son aided. They also spoke of their ideas of freedom, which he saw as an ‘invitation to chaos’. After reaching the gate to Church’s position, he allowed Connor to retrieve some sort of disguise, waiting at the rendezvous until his return.
There will, however, be exceptions to this rule. Sometimes a newly uploaded image has been sitting on a user’s computer for some time. That user must make every effort to find the original source, though if they cannot find it then they must state the exact reason why they cannot find that source. If a user saved an image from DeviantArt long ago but cannot find the image again on the website, they must state that they know they found it on DeviantArt but cannot find exactly where due to the length of time that has passed. The same goes for any other website image gallery such as DeviantArt or similar gallery sites. The image may still be deleted if this is the case, though it must be clearly stated or an Administrator will assume that it simply has not been sourced.

[[File:ACIII-Foamandflames_3.png|thumb|250px|Haytham and Connor confronting the imposter.]]
As far as search engines like Google and Yahoo are concerned, no user can justifiably use Google or Yahoo, as the source, in any situation. Use of such an ambiguous source for an image is no different than citing “The Library” as a source on an essay paper. If you found the image on a Google Search, then you will clearly be able to find the site again. If the site has, in fact, disappeared, then state that but do not mention Google. If the image also happened to be deleted from its original website, cite the website as a source and mention that the image is no longer there.
When Connor did return, Haytham led them to the door, passing through with the permission of the guards. Exploring the brewery, they had a conversation about Connor’s mother, in which Haytham learned of her passing. After Connor had given the blame to Charles Lee, Haytham denied it, saying that he had ordered against it and it was not possible. When they reached Church, Haytham set his accusations and sentenced the man to death, only to be surprised that the man was another in disguise, and they were being ambushed by the mercenaries. Making short work of them, there was a quick interrogation for Church's position, which allowed them to discover that he was on his way for Martinique. Once more the interrogation led to death, when Haytham once more killed the victim at the end.

Following the murder, a second ambush began, causing barrels to explode and set the building to fire with the two inside. With Haytham leading the way, as well as going through a simpler route, they narrowly escaped the burning brewery by leaping through the locked door into the water below. Climbing onto the docks, they quickly formulated a plan to use the ''[[Aquila]]'' to catch up with Church, who was just over a day ahead of them.
#===Permission===
Permission is an important factor to be considered before any images are uploaded. Any images taken from the games, comics or other media almost certainly have [[Template:fairuse|Fair Use permission]] attached to them. This means that explicit permission from the authors is not required, so long as sufficient attribution is given, the image is being used in a descriptive, not degrading fashion.

===Chasing Benjamin Church===
As the uploading of fan-art to the mainspace is not permitted (see [[Assassin's Creed Wiki: Image policy#Fan art and realworld images|Fan art]] below), the chances of express permission being required are slim, though if such a case does occur, verifiable evidence of permission being granted must be readily available, in case accusations to the contrary occur. If permission cannot be proven, appropriate action will be taken.
{{Quote|So here we are, face to face at last, my friend. It's been quite an adventure - let me tell you - working my way through your nasty little tricks and traps. Clever. Some of them, anyway. And for that, my fallen friend, you will be made to pay.|Haytham beating up Benjamin Church.|Assassin's Creed III}}

[[File:ACIII-Bitterend_8.png|thumb|250px|left|Haytham taking control of the Aquila away from Connor.]]
Acceptable forms of proof include emails and private messages with the author.
Meeting Connor at a New York pier, in the far-eastern section of the city, Haytham boarded the ship for the journey to catch Church. By 1778, they had caught up somewhere in the [[Caribbean Sea]], despite Haytham's remarks that they were probably days behind because of the route choice. After a narrow crossing though the rocks, they approached 'The Welcome', Church’s initial escape ship, which was already abandoned. Following a quick examination, a smaller ship was noticed in the distance, fleeing away as it shot at the ''Aquila''.

Quickly beginning to follow, Haytham and Connor’s crew went through the rocky passage, while the father repetitively heckled his son over imperfections he observed, claiming his superiority as well. After the smaller vessel passed through a narrow cliff-side area, the ''Aquila'' was forced to pass around the rocks, and was greeted on the other side by a British 'Man o' War' and a few smaller ships firing at them with full force. Making short work of the smaller boats, Connor and Haytham had the crew fire chain shots at the 'Man o' War', breaking the masts before they boarded the enemy ship.
#===Fan art and realworld images===
The uploading of fan art for use on a mainspace article is expressly forbidden, regardless of the quality of the image in question, or whether permission has been obtained. If you wish to add fan art, add it to the fanon section's ACFanon:Artwork|art page.

[[File:ACIII-Bitterend_10.png|thumb|250px|Haytham beating up Benjamin Church.]]
In the case of realworld images, such images should be avoided at all cost, unless there are no alternative means of procuring an image. For example, the image [[:File:Adolf Hitler.jpg]] is not taken from any ''Assassin's Creed'' material; however, as the image is suitable for the article (and as long as it follows the requirements of this policy) and no reasonable alternative can be found in-game, it may be used on the [[Adolf Hitler]] article ''only''. On the other hand, a realworld image of the [[Basilica di San Marco]] is ''not'' acceptable, as suitable in-game images are easily obtainable.
Just as they were about to meet at the side, Haytham stole the wheel and rammed the ''Aquila'' into the opposing ship, following with a mighty leap to the other side as he fought his way to Church below decks. Quickly, Connor leaped over himself, bringing his crew with him to fight the mercenaries aboard. After killing the three officers on the upper deck, Connor made his way to the position of Haytham and Church. Haytham, giving a slight speech to his former co-conspirator, continued to violently beat the man near to death. Connor proceeded from there to end the man’s suffering after discovering the location of the Continental supplies, which lay on a nearby island awaiting pickup.

===Final cooperation with Connor===
Realworld images are permitted for use in articles when an in-game image is already present '''if''' it is being used to show comparative differences between the realworld and in-game subjects. For example, [[:File:800px-Hagia Sophia.png]] portrays the [[Hagia Sophia]] in both senses, showing the stylistic differences between the two. Use of comparative images purely for the sake of it is not permitted, and such images will be treated as fan-art.
{{Quote|You oppose tyranny. Injustice. These are just symptoms. Their true cause is human weakness. Why do you think I keep on trying to show you the error of your way?|Haytham's last attempt at converting his son.|Assassin's Creed III}}
[[File:ACIII-Brokentrust_1.png|thumb|left|250px|Haytham revealing Washington's order to attack Kanatahséton.]]
After cooperating with his son to kill Church, a sort of alliance was formed between Haytham and Connor, uneasy however in the fact that the unity was so weak. In an effort to secure independence from Great Britain, Haytham began working with his son to deliver the final blows. When they met up after the assassination near [[Bowling Green]], they began a mission to discover the Loyalist plans, striking to interrogate the officers around the ruins from [[Great Fire of New York|New York's Great Fire]]. Climbing through the destroyed buildings, they made their way to a viewpoint above the higher ranking soldiers.

Determining after useless eavesdropping that a different attempt to gather information was necessary, Haytham leaped down and proceeded to start a fight with the British Regulars. Connor, forced to help, went along to fight as well. Making relatively short work of the soldiers, Haytham and Connor quickly caught the officers against the wall, except one that managed to run off. While Connor went to chase him, Haytham took the others too his quarters in [[Fort George]], interrogating them, and eventually killing them. After the return of the final officer, a final interrogation occurred, following with another death by Haytham’s hand, justified in his terms because the man would have told his command. Following the argument, Haytham made his way to the Continental fort in Valley Forge.
#====HUD====
All images uploaded from the games should, if at all possible, feature no Heads Up Display, or HUD, unless the image is being used to describe the features present in the [[Animus]]' interface.

#==Personal images==
During the night, Connor also made his way to the fort, meeting with Haytham at the foot of the hill to George Washington’s command point. Following a short argument over what Connor favors, they proceeded up to meet with the Commander-in-Chief. As Connor warned him of the British plans, Haytham sneaked behind and discovered a letter ordering the attack on Connor’s village, [[Kanatahséton]]. Haytham then proceeded to educate Connor on the General’s plan, along with the information that the first attack in the [[French and Indian War|Seven Years' War]] was also Washington’s work, causing him to cut ties with both of them. He claimed that Haytham had known all along, and that he had kept the information on purpose.
Users may only upload up to five images for their own personal use. In this context, personal use is described as for use solely outside the article mainspace; qualifying pages include user pages, blogs, forum posts and the likes. These images are not, under any circumstances, to be inserted into the mainspace.

===Death===
The number of personal images for use within userboxes is limited to ten images per user, and must be under 250 x 250 pixels. Once again, these images must follow all policy requirements needed of them. Any images ''created'' by the user for use on their personal page must be sourced to the user in question.
{{Quote|Too late he learned the truth of this - murdered by his own son. He gave his life as he lived it - in service to a dream we all share.|Charles Lee at Haytham's funeral, 1782.|Assassin's Creed III}}
After Connor had completed assisting the French Armada at the Battle of the Chesapeake, he had convinced the Admiral to allow the use of five ships for the attack on [[Fort George]]. While they fired from New York Harbor from above, Connor sneaked below the area, through the underground tunnel network to reach Lee. Haytham, who still had a quartering in Fort George, had been working with his plans there with Lee prior to when the attack finally occurred. Believing danger for his co-conspirator's life and his plans, he sent Lee off in hopes that he would survive to continue on, while Haytham stayed to deal his son.

Connor, who had been injured in an explosion, was struggling by the time he found his father instead of his original target. When Connor reached the most defended point, Haytham was waiting for him, starting a fight that had him with the obvious upper-hand. The odds were slightly evened when Connor managed to stab Haytham in the arm, and a grueling battle began, forcing Connor to use the environment to his advantage. Eventually, a small explosion led to them both dropping to the ground. Haytham reacted quickly and attempted to strangle Connor while belittling the nature of the Assassins and [[The Creed|their creed]] against the Templars, but Connor quickly and fatally stabbed his father in the neck with the Hidden Blade, ending Haytham's life and rule as the Templar Grand Master.
Note: A user is entitled to upload a '''maximum''' of fifteen uniquely named images for personal use.

==Personality and characteristics==
#==Failure to source images==
{{Quote|You're still possessed of virtue. To stop and help an old lout like myself...|Benjamin Franklin to Haytham Kenway, 1755.|Assassin's Creed III}}
If a user fails to source their images, then they are in breach of this Image Policy. It will therefore be treated as a breach of any other policies are and, thus, there will be consequences. The Administrators keep a close eye on recent uploads to ensure that all images are properly sourced, so it is next to impossible to upload an image, fail to source it and get away with it. A user has up to 24 hours from the time of upload to provide a proper source for the image, although files infringing multiple requirements of the policy may be deleted before this time period is completed.
From the beginning, Haytham was very focused on his beliefs, every action concerning his Templar mindset. After learning that he would be unable to enter the storehouse, he grew quite concerned on setting up a power for the Templars in the Colonies.

As a young man, Haytham acted as a member of authority, slightly conceited in some ways, evident by his ignoring lower class civilians. When in the company of people closer to what he believed to be his level of intelligence or class, he was quite kind and more well-mannered. This, though, doesn't seem to tie up with his respect towards the Native Anericans, who many considered savages, and would surely have been below his intelligence. Indeed, he even engaged in a relationship with one. Occasionally, he would make a small joke, but in most situations he was relatively serious. He was kind towards the natives, saving their lives, and apologising towards those he disturbed during ''The Begger's Opera.''
The first time a user breaks the policy, they may (depending on whether an administrator deems it necessary) be warned that they have failed to follow the policy and that the next time it happens they will be blocked for a pre-determined length of time, and the offending images will be deleted. Like with all other blocks, the length of time a user is blocked for increases as the offenses continue.

He also showed a compassionate side. He did not kill the child at the Opera after he had witnessed his kill, and he readily agreed to help Franklin find his Albamac pages if he saw any. He also spared Braddock's life, despite his betreyal. He also saved the life of the sailor aboard the ship to America, during the storm, displaying his courage, and he was unflinching in a fight, defending Charles against Connor, and acting cool when captured by Church's men while tailing the convoy.
The following punishments are used for users who fail to follow the image policy:
*First offense: Warning
*Second offense: One day ban
*Third offense: Three day ban
*Fourth offense: One month ban
*Fifth offense: Infinite ban on uploading media, and one week ban for disruption

When he was older, he experienced significant change from how he was in his younger years. At this time, he was shown to be a more irrational and impulsive individual, forcing people to do the dirty work and jumping into situations he knew he would make another person finish. Haytham had also become much more cruel in some ways, callously killing his prisoners (though he was secretly shocked by his own cruelty, as he wrote in his journal). In the company of his son, though, his hardened demeanor softened in some ways, or he made an attempt to be nice without displaying too much emotion. Shortly before his death, he became more fatherly towards his son in an attempt to kindle a relationship with him. Despite his attempts though, his care for the Templar cause fell greater than that of his son, and so he ultimately attempted to kill him in order to protect it. Despite this, he seemed generally distraught when Connor cut ties with him after the face off with Washington. In this way, he can be seen to sacrifice even those thngs close to him, all in the ultimate interests of mankind, even if his methods are less than stellar, recalling the Creed of the Assassin's, who kill because they must. In this way, he still holds onto his Assasin upbringing.
#==Animated .GIF images==
The use of animated .GIF images (which are considered personal images) is not allowed in mainspace pages. Mainspace pages are also commonly referred to as articles. If a .GIF image is found in an article, it will be removed and a notice will be given in the edit summary not to reinsert it. Despite being restricted from articles, animated .GIF images are allowed on talk pages, user pages, blogs, and all other pages outside of the article mainspace.

Despite this, it seems he harbored love for his son, even if he did try to bury it; what with his attempt to work with him, and his last remark that he was was proud of him. Haytham's book, 'Forsaken' also brings to light that Haytham saved Connor's life at his execution. The hanging rope was not properly cut by the Assassin's, so he directed a throwing knife to it, severing the rope and saving his son's life. He also expressed shock and regret at Ziio's death, and the fact he left her when she cut off contact with him with no argument, honouring her wishes, shows that he was very capable of love towards his family. While he certainly had personal reasons, he was appalled by Lee's willingness to kill Native Americans, and insisted that slaughtering innocents went against Templar ideals.
#==Questions or concerns==
Any user who has any questions about the nature or content of this policy or any user who has any concerns about the policy should not hesitate to contact an active Administrator for help. Administrators are elected to their positions to enforce our policies, but also to help users with any problems they might be having on the ''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki. Therefore, it is expected that any questions or concerns be directed to an Administrator, especially if the Administrator warns said user about the violation of this policy. Active and veteran members are also always available to help answer questions.

{{Policy|Articles and additions ''must'' be relevant and not recurrent. No need to mention things twice.}}
Haytham was a capable [[freerunning|freerunner]], able to stealthily climb the inside of an opera house and the buildings of Colonial America with little effort. He was also an avid planner, able to quickly come up with infiltration techniques that could cripple a group. As well as that, he was an intelligent speaker and a master of both deception and stealth. He also possessed two [[Hidden Blade]]s as well as the rare ability of [[Eagle Vision]]. Other weapons he used included a sword, flintlock pistol, musket, and skilled hand-to-hand combat.

==Final words==
#==Relevancy==
*'''Connor:''' ''Surrender, and I will spare you.''
Here on '''Assassin's Wiki''' we have a guideline that says: ''"Everything is relevant, except the irrelevant"''. It means that although information is knowledge and therefore worthy of attention, some things are just plain ''useless'' and'' uncalled for''.
*'''Haytham:''' ''Brave words for someone about to die.''
*'''Connor:''' ''You fare no better!''
*'''Haytham:''' ''Even when your kind appears to triumph... still, we rise again. And, do you know why? It is because the Order is born of a REALIZATION. We require no creed! No indoctrination by desperate, old men. All we need is that the world be as it is. And THIS is why the Templars will never be destroyed!''
Connor managed to stab Haytham in the neck with the Hidden Blade.
*'''Haytham:''' ''Don't think I have any intention of caressing your cheek and saying I was wrong. I will not weep, and wonder what might have been. I'm sure you understand. Still, I'm proud of you in a way. You have shown great conviction, strength, courage, all noble qualities... I should have killed you long ago.''
*'''Connor: '''''Goodbye, father.''

==Trivia==
#==='''Examples:'''===
*Haytham's name is connected with an eagle, continuing the eagle motif set by [[Aquilus]], [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]], [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]], [[Aveline de Grandpré]] and [[Nikolai Orelov]].
'''Article''': [[Guards]]
*Like some of Desmond's ancestors, the meaning of Haytham's name related to his character:
**"Haytham" is an Arabic name meaning "young eagle."
**"Kenway" is an Old English name meaning "brave royal fighter."
*Like his son, he did not possess the scar on his lip that some of Desmond's other ancestors displayed.
*Haytham had an eagle symbol on his jacket's left cuff, and what appeared to be a broken, rusted Assassin insignia on his right bracer. His cloak was also adorned by symbols both resembling a Templar cross near the top, and the Assassin insignia near the middle.
*Haytham was the first playable Templar in the ''Assassin's Creed'' series' single player mode, and the first playable ancestor who wore a hat instead of the symbolic white hood of the Assassins, the second being [[Aveline de Grandpré]].
**In addition, the only mission playable without Haytham's hat was when he entered the Theatre Royal at the start of ''Assassin's Creed III''.
*Haytham was the only known Templar capable of using [[Eagle Vision]].
*He was the second known ancestor of Desmond to be a Templar, the other being [[Maria Thorpe]].
*Haytham's left Hidden Blade was unlike those of previous ancestors, being shorter and closer to his wrist.
*Haytham was the fourth known Templar to perform a [[Leap of Faith]], others being [[Francesco de' Pazzi]], [[Vali cel Tradat]] and [[Daniel Cross]].
*The interactions between Haytham and Connor showed similarities to [[William Miles|William]] and [[Desmond Miles|Desmond]], specifically concerning personality and conversations.
*Ironically, Haytham mentioned near to the start of ''Assassin's Creed III'' that he cut ties with Edward Braddock for his ruthlessness and slaughter of innocents, which he later began showing signs of by the end of the game.
*Haytham once owned a short sword given to him by his father, but lost it in a battle with Miko. Similarly, Haytham's Hidden Blade once belonged to Miko, before Haytham had stolen it.

This is relevant to the 'Guards' article because it is interesting, note-worthy and your average reader probably wouldn't have known this on his/her first playthrough of the game.
'''Irrelevant Example (Stage I)''':
<pre>Guards can fight Ezio.</pre>
This is irrelevant because everyone who has played the game, watched the game or even ''heard'' about this game would know that guards have the ability to fight Ezio, the main protagonist and player.
However, there is one more stage of irrelevancy that should be '''removed''' on sight, this is the act of writing about a '''totally different''' article on another page. Here's an example;
'''Article''': [[Ezio Auditore da Firenze]] - Trivia Section
'''Relevant Trivia''':
<pre> Ezio was most likely the only son of Giovanni to know that his family were of an Assassin culture. </pre>
'''Irrelevant Trivia (Stage II)''':
<pre> Militia Guards always stick with Seekers or Brutes. </pre>
#==Repetition==
"''But better die than live mechanically a life that is a repetition of repetitions.''"
Repetition is the act of writing what is said on an article again, but in a different manner or location.
This isn't as important as relevancy, but conjures the same consequences, your writing gets removed and you anger the wiki users.
Here's an example of the most typical and common repetition on this wiki.
#===Example:===
'''Article''': [[Desmond Miles]]
Taken from the article;
<pre>Desmond is a descendant of Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Connor Kenway.</pre>
'''Trivia:'''
<pre>Desmond is a descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.</pre>
This is repetition, as you have noticed on the first paragraph of that article, it is written already that Desmond is a descendant of Altaïr, so why state it as a 'fun-fact' in Trivia? It offers no additional merit to the article.
==Sourcing==
{{Policy|Articles '''must''' be sourced correctly. '''No''' speculation whatsoever!}}
{{Shortcut|AC:POL/SRC}}
The following is the official '''''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki Attribution policy'''. The main space of the ''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki is not a forum for personal or original thought. All and any information on the Wiki must be attributed to a verifiable source, the names of which are listed below.
In particular, editors must provide attribution for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. The burden of evidence lies with the editor wishing to add or retain the material. If an article topic has no reliable sources, the ''Assassin's Creed'' Wiki should not have an article on it.
It must also be noted that the following policy applies only to the Wiki's main space articles, and not to the associated [[Forum:Index|Forums]] or ACFanon:Home|Fan Section.
#==Key principles==
#===No original thought===
Original thought refers to material that is not attributable to a reliable, published source. This includes unpublished facts, arguments, ideas, statements, and personal opinion; as well as, by extension, unpublished analysis or synthesis of published material. It is forbidden to include such information, especially when accompanied with an introduction such as ''"This is pure speculation, but..."''
All information on an article must be attributed to a reliable source, and any material added to articles must be explicitly presented in said source.
#===Reliable sources as bases===
In order to be classed as a "reliable source", a medium must meet the following criteria;
#The medium must be published or endorsed by [[Ubisoft]], and relate explicitly to the [[Assassin's Creed (series)|''Assassin's Creed'' series]].
#Information given on an official Ubisoft forum should only be considered canon when it is published by an administrator of the forum (who should subsequently be an employee of Ubisoft), and confirmed as fact in said post.
#Information given in any medium must '''explicitly''' indicate a view before it is entered into the article. Assumptions cannot be derived from stated or ambiguous data.
Speculation or "news" posted on popular gaming websites does not constitute a reliable source, and cannot be included unless supported by one of the above.
#==Reliable sources==
Below is a non-exhaustive list of media that can be considered as reliable sources.

#==General standards==
Once a source is found for the information to be added, the user who wishes to add the information '''must''' also cite it. However, a few key points must be observed before any information is placed into an article.
#===Canonicity===
With the growing amount of material available to the ''Assassin's Creed'' series, the possibility of conflicting information is present. As such, the following assumptions should be made before information is entered into any of the articles on the Wiki;
#'''In most cases''', the main games (as listed under the "Reliable sources" section) are the highest tier of canon. If any information given in another medium explicitly contradicts that given in these games, it is considered non-canon. For example, if ''Assassin's Creed: Renaissance'' states that it took an individual three days to travel from Venice to Florence, while ''Assassin's Creed II'' clearly indicates it only took two, the article will cite the game over the novella.
#The canonicity of media is tiered. The highest tier contains the aforementioned main games, while the second tier contains the spin-off games. The third tier contains the films, novellas, the ''Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia'', and two comics, ''Assassin's Creed: The Fall'' and ''Assassin's Creed: The Chain''. Finally, the fourth tier contains the remaining three comics.
#===Introduction===
Sources must not be cited in the introduction or lead section of an article. Most if not all of the information in the introduction is mentioned again later in the article, and should be cited within the main text. This helps to limit congestion of the introductory text and keep the overall presentation respectable.
If, however, a sourced piece of information in the introduction '''is not''' mentioned again in the main text, it may be cited where required.
#===Positioning===
Citations go immediately after punctuation and outside of quotation marks, with no space between the end of a sentence and a reference tag. It must be made directly after that which is being cited, so as to prevent confusion to the reader.
If an entire paragraph or section cites information from a single source, then simply place the citation at the end of the paragraph or section.
#==Formats==
Upon confirming that both the information and citations to be used are valid, the citations must be properly '''formatted''' in accordance with the formats listed below.
The formats needed for each citation shall differ based on whether an article '''possesses''' one or many references, and whether each reference is '''inserted''' within the article one or many times.
#===Multiple references===
By standard, most articles require the citation of several different references. The format of each individual reference differs, based upon whether it is only used once within the article, or multiple times.
For the '''single''' insertion of a citation, the following format must be used;
<pre><ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Lineage]]''</ref></pre>
For '''multiple''' insertions of the same citation, two separate formats must be used; one for the first insertion point, and one for all subsequent insertion points.
In this case, citations must also be '''named''' appropriately through the "ref name" parameter. Numbered main games must be named "AC", "AC2", or "AC3" respectively, while all other media must use either their subtitles only (such as "Project Legacy", "Revelations novel", or "The Chain") or their appropriate acronyms (such as "ACPL", "RBook", or "ACTF"). A full list of the acronyms may be found on the "Variables" section of the [[Template:Era|Era template]].
The following format is used in the first insertion point;
<pre><ref name="Lineage">''[[Assassin's Creed: Lineage]]''</ref></pre>
while the format below is for subsequent insertions points;
<pre><ref name="Lineage" /></pre>
#===Outside references===
Outside references, or those external to the ''Assassin's Creed'' series, should be kept to a minimum, and preferably only mentioned in the "Trivia" section of an article. The references must add something constructive to the article, and come from a source reliable in relation to the field it is from.
For example, if sourced from {{Wiki|The Prince|Wikipedia's article on ''The Prince''}}, the line "[[Niccolò Machiavelli]] wrote ''The Prince'', a book which seems to counter the very ideals of the [[Assassins]]." should be written as such;
<pre>[[Niccolò Machiavelli]] wrote ''The Prince'', a book which seems to counter the very ideals of the [[Assassins]].<ref>''{{Wiki|The Prince}}''</ref></pre>
#===Specified references===
In the case of subcategories of a source, such as the chapters of ''Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy'' or the numbered issues of ''Assassin's Creed: The Fall'', the original source must first be listed, followed by the subcategory; as written below. The same method also applies for all instances of [[DLC|downloadable content]].
<pre><ref name="Project Legacy - Bartolomeo d'Alviano">''[[Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy]]'' - [[Italian Wars: Chapter 1 - Bartolomeo d'Alviano]]</ref></pre>
#===Reference list===
Whether the article makes use of multiple series references, multiple outside references, or a mixture of both, the "References" header must be included. At the bottom of the article, just before categories and appearance templates such as <nowiki>{{ACII}}</nowiki>, the following must be inserted;
<pre>
==References==
==References==
*''[[Assassin's Creed III]]''
{{Reflist}}
*''[[Assassin's Creed: Forsaken]] ''
</pre>
{{AC3}}

{{DEFAULTSORT:Kenway, Haytham}}
#===Singular reference===
In the case of an article possessing only a single reference for its entirety, the formats listed previously do not apply. For this special case, neither <nowiki><ref></nowiki> citations nor the "References" header need be used; since citing every section with the same source would be unnecessary and time-consuming.

Instead, the bottom of the article must contain the single source under the "Reference" header, and may be written as such;

<pre>
==Reference==
*''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]'' - ''[[Copernicus Conspiracy]]''
</pre>

==Writing tense==
{{Policy|Tenses must be not be mixed in articles, they must be written in one tense only.}}
{{Shortcut|AC:POL/TNS}}
In the '''''Assassin's Creed Wiki''''', we set the canon timeline as the latest known event in the timeline. So any and all events that have already occured must be written in a encyclopedial past tense instead of a narrative present tense.

Characters, locations, objects or events that still exist must be referred to in a present tense, as to not give the implication that they no longer exist by the time of the latest event in the series' timeline.

If you need help understanding Present Tense from Past Tense, or you're just having a blank, it is encouraged to read the guidelines that are written below;

#===Past Tense===
The '''past tense''' is a verb tense (or sentence) expressing action, activity, state of being in the past of the current moment (in an absolute tense system), or prior to some other event, whether that is past, present, or future (in a relative tense system).

#===Present Tense===
'''Present Tense''' is the tense that may be used to express:
*action at the present
*a state of being;
*an occurrence in the (very) near future; or
*an action that occurred in the past and continues up to the present.

#===Examples:===
Past Tense:

<pre> Ezio 'jumped' from one rooftop to the other, but 'missed' the ledge and 'fell' into a haystack. </pre>

Present Tense:

<pre> Ezio 'jumps' from one rooftop to the other, but 'misses' the ledge and 'falls' into a haystack. </pre>

#===Rules===
*If an article is written in '''''past tense''''', the text a user adds must ''also'' be written in '''''past tense''''' and vice versa.
*Quotes must be '''kept in the tense they are written in'''. Regardless of the article's tense.
*It is generally more accepted to write in past tense, unless you are writing about an '''event''' or '''battle'''.
*Do not change articles to a tense of your choice, leave it as it is unless it is mixed with the two tenses.

  1. ==The Achievement System==

Assassin's Creed Wiki, since the 19th of July, 2010 has supported achievements, medals and points as rewards to proficient editors.

However, there are some editors who think they can out-smart the system by adding random spaces, periods and nonsense to articles.

We, the writers of this guide, know that some users may not know they are breaking the rules. It is heavily encouraged that all users should read this guide first before being warned or having their points taken from them.

  1. ==Punishable offenses to the Achievement System==
  2. ===Saving page constantly:===

Most heavily used on the Timeline pages; adding overused links, one or two periods, random spaces or adding 'st' or 'th' to date numbers on a page using the 'separation technique' (see example) is a bannable offense. Besides over-use of links, all of those others aren't bad and can make a page look good sometimes, but when you add periods or fix up date numbers be sure to edit them as a group, using the 'group technique' and not to use the 'separation technique' (shown below)!

  1. ====Separation technique and group technique====

If an editor performs the example listed below (known as the 'separation technique'), they can and will be punished:

 Click edit on one sub-heading > Add 'st' to 1st of Janurary > Save Page > Click edit on another sub-heading > Add 'th' to 4th of March > Save Page > Etc, etc.

- Vice Versa with periods, linkage, etc...

This exploit is a bannable offense and can result in a user's loss of points.

Instead, the editor should scroll to the top of the page, and click 'Edit This Page'. This will show the editor the whole page to edit as a group (i.e. 'group technique') and not individually with sub-headings, if they edit by adding to multiple sub-headings using the 'separation technique', even on the same article, those small edits will count as different contributions and give the user a high edit count and badges for nothing, the main reason why it is against the rules.

The example below is editing as a group using the 'group technique', this is what you are supposed to do, and is not a bannable offense.

 Click Edit This Page (not edit next to a sub-heading) > Add 'st' to 1st, add 'th' to 4th, add 'nd' to 2nd > Save Page
  1. ===Removing and adding imagery:===

Removing an image off a page, then saving the page, then adding it back in an effort to get points will result in you actually losing points. It is a bannable offense to do this and you will be caught.

Example:

 Remove current image > Save Page > Add the exact image but under user's name > Save Page
  1. ===A list of other offenses involving the Achievement System:===
  • Adding nonsense to pages, then removing it yourself.
  • Editing an article, using multiple sub-headings instead of grouping the edit.
  • Constant postings of blogs that have been done before.
  • Removing categories, then re-adding them and vice versa.

You may be wondering how a cheat is caught, since his/her edit is lost in a mass of other edits.

Everytime a user makes an edit in this wiki it is logged and can be tracked back to the user, so think twice before abusing the achievement system.

Article rules[edit | edit source]

Mainly in accordance with community vote, the Assassin's Creed Wiki has various rules and guidelines about article construction and naming. These are addressed in the following list:

Images
Main article: Assassin's Creed Wiki:Images
  1. Images, when not featured in a gallery, must always be in thumbnails.
  2. In relation to secondary clauses in image descriptions, punctuation – such as commas, colons, semi-colons and dashes – are acceptable, though periods are discouraged.
Article naming and organization
  1. Article names for landmarks must be written in English, in accordance with the Wiki's chosen language to maintain consistency, and native translations must be featured at the start of the article in brackets. Any alternative translations not featured in an Assassin's Creed medium are strictly not allowed.
  2. Categories must maintain a certain structure, mainly addressed by relevancy. See the following example:
    1. Featured Articles, 1459 births, 1524 deaths, Individuals, Italians, Couriers, Farmers, Auditore family, Assassins, Master Assassins, Mentors, Individuals with Eagle Vision, Individuals who held Pieces of Eden, Ancestors of Desmond Miles, Ancestors of Clay Kaczmarek
  3. Use edit summaries wherever possible. When undoing reverts, always list a reason. Edit summaries are not to be used to hold conversations.

Community guidelines[edit | edit source]

Welcome to the wiki! This page lists some of the guidelines you have to follow while taking part in the Assassin's Creed Wiki community.

  1. ==Guidelines==
  2. Behave normally. You will never be asked to be "nice" or not use foul language. This is common decency. Repeated violation is grounds for sanctions.
  3. No complaining to other users. Users who ask for something from another wiki user and are refused it should not fill the wiki with complaining, which is grounds for sanctions. It is acceptable to be persistent, but in a mature manner.
  4. Refrain from discussing real-world politics and/or religion in community forums or blogs. More often than not these result in unwanted arguments or bad discussions.
  5. Assassin's Creed Wiki's official language: English. We don't care if it's British or American, as long as it's not "L33t" or "TXT." Abbreviations are fine, but keep it within reason.
  6. Stay on-topic. Don't sidetrack a conversation on an unrelated talk page, blog or forum. Start a new place of discussion if you want to talk about another subject or discuss it on a user's talk page.
  7. No spamming. The meaning should be obvious. Don't say the same thing six times because no one is responding to you. Don't keep pushing a subject nobody is interested in.
  8. Not being aware does not make you exempt. It is your own responsibility to make sure you are following the rules. Not knowing about them does not mean you can violate the rules.

Violation of these guidelines is grounds for warnings. Repeated warnings or major violations may result in blocks of unspecified length. Repeated blocks will result in a permanent ban. Please consult an administrator or moderator if you have any questions.

The following is the official Assassin's Creed Wiki Image policy. The policy dictates requirements for sourcing images and information about the usage of images on the Assassin's Creed Wiki.

  1. ==Sourcing==
  2. ===Guidelines===

All images uploaded to the Assassin's Creed Wiki must be sourced with the original source rather than any website that the image may have been found on. For example, an image of Ezio Auditore da Firenze may have been found on a website containing a gallery of Assassin's Creed images, but that is not a proper image source to put. Instead, the image should be sourced to the media it originally came from, be it a game, novel or concept art. Likewise, screenshots taken from videos posted on YouTube and similar sites must also be sourced to the original media.

It is a legal requirement that images uploaded under Fair Use serve a function. As such, images cannot be uploaded solely for inclusion in a gallery unless the gallery is integral to the function of the article. For example, the images in Tiber Island headquarters serve to provide a visual representation of the location in question; each image is unique and depicts a different part of that location. The inclusion of another image of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad solely for use in the gallery is not permitted, as there is already an ample supply of images depicting his character in use.

  1. ====Proper names, subtitles and watermarks====

Images should be uploaded under a proper name that accurately describes the contents of the file. For example, File:Daniel Cross-The Fall1.jpg is fine, as it simply informs the reader of the contents of the image. [:File:639c39706e7a090c2693753600d47d86.png] is not acceptable, as it falls under the category of improper names and does not simply describe the contents of the image.

Images should, wherever possible, avoid featuring subtitles.

Images that are watermarked should, if possible, be cropped to exclude the watermark itself. If a watermarked image cannot be cropped to remove said watermark, please do not upload it. If a watermarked image is uploaded, it will be marked for deletion.

When uploading the image, the source should be included in the images edit summary.

  1. ===Licences===

Clarification on which licences to use can be found here.

  1. ===The games and Google===

  1. ===Permission===

Permission is an important factor to be considered before any images are uploaded. Any images taken from the games, comics or other media almost certainly have Fair Use permission attached to them. This means that explicit permission from the authors is not required, so long as sufficient attribution is given, the image is being used in a descriptive, not degrading fashion.

As the uploading of fan-art to the mainspace is not permitted (see Fan art below), the chances of express permission being required are slim, though if such a case does occur, verifiable evidence of permission being granted must be readily available, in case accusations to the contrary occur. If permission cannot be proven, appropriate action will be taken.

Acceptable forms of proof include emails and private messages with the author.

  1. ===Fan art and realworld images===

The uploading of fan art for use on a mainspace article is expressly forbidden, regardless of the quality of the image in question, or whether permission has been obtained. If you wish to add fan art, add it to the fanon section's ACFanon:Artwork|art page.

In the case of realworld images, such images should be avoided at all cost, unless there are no alternative means of procuring an image. For example, the image File:Adolf Hitler.jpg is not taken from any Assassin's Creed material; however, as the image is suitable for the article (and as long as it follows the requirements of this policy) and no reasonable alternative can be found in-game, it may be used on the Adolf Hitler article only. On the other hand, a realworld image of the Basilica di San Marco is not acceptable, as suitable in-game images are easily obtainable.

Realworld images are permitted for use in articles when an in-game image is already present if it is being used to show comparative differences between the realworld and in-game subjects. For example, File:800px-Hagia Sophia.png portrays the Hagia Sophia in both senses, showing the stylistic differences between the two. Use of comparative images purely for the sake of it is not permitted, and such images will be treated as fan-art.

  1. ====HUD====

All images uploaded from the games should, if at all possible, feature no Heads Up Display, or HUD, unless the image is being used to describe the features present in the Animus' interface.

  1. ==Personal images==

Users may only upload up to five images for their own personal use. In this context, personal use is described as for use solely outside the article mainspace; qualifying pages include user pages, blogs, forum posts and the likes. These images are not, under any circumstances, to be inserted into the mainspace.

The number of personal images for use within userboxes is limited to ten images per user, and must be under 250 x 250 pixels. Once again, these images must follow all policy requirements needed of them. Any images created by the user for use on their personal page must be sourced to the user in question.

Note: A user is entitled to upload a maximum of fifteen uniquely named images for personal use.

  1. ==Failure to source images==

The following punishments are used for users who fail to follow the image policy:

  • First offense: Warning
  • Second offense: One day ban
  • Third offense: Three day ban
  • Fourth offense: One month ban
  • Fifth offense: Infinite ban on uploading media, and one week ban for disruption
  1. ==Animated .GIF images==

  1. ==Questions or concerns==

Any user who has any questions about the nature or content of this policy or any user who has any concerns about the policy should not hesitate to contact an active Administrator for help. Administrators are elected to their positions to enforce our policies, but also to help users with any problems they might be having on the Assassin's Creed Wiki. Therefore, it is expected that any questions or concerns be directed to an Administrator, especially if the Administrator warns said user about the violation of this policy. Active and veteran members are also always available to help answer questions.

Relevancy[edit | edit source]

Shortcut:
AC:POL/REL
  1. ==Relevancy==

Here on Assassin's Wiki we have a guideline that says: "Everything is relevant, except the irrelevant". It means that although information is knowledge and therefore worthy of attention, some things are just plain useless and uncalled for.

  1. ===Examples:===

Article: Guards

Relevant Example:

Venetian Guards are more better outfitted and equipped than those of the Florentine ones.

This is relevant to the 'Guards' article because it is interesting, note-worthy and your average reader probably wouldn't have known this on his/her first playthrough of the game.

Irrelevant Example (Stage I):

Guards can fight Ezio.

This is irrelevant because everyone who has played the game, watched the game or even heard about this game would know that guards have the ability to fight Ezio, the main protagonist and player.

However, there is one more stage of irrelevancy that should be removed on sight, this is the act of writing about a totally different article on another page. Here's an example;

Article: Ezio Auditore da Firenze - Trivia Section

Relevant Trivia:

 Ezio was most likely the only son of Giovanni to know that his family were of an Assassin culture.

Irrelevant Trivia (Stage II):

 Militia Guards always stick with Seekers or Brutes.
  1. ==Repetition==

"But better die than live mechanically a life that is a repetition of repetitions."

Repetition is the act of writing what is said on an article again, but in a different manner or location. This isn't as important as relevancy, but conjures the same consequences, your writing gets removed and you anger the wiki users. Here's an example of the most typical and common repetition on this wiki.

  1. ===Example:===

Article: Desmond Miles

Taken from the article;

Desmond is a descendant of Aquilus, Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad, Ezio Auditore da Firenze and Connor Kenway.

Trivia:

Desmond is a descendant of Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad.

This is repetition, as you have noticed on the first paragraph of that article, it is written already that Desmond is a descendant of Altaïr, so why state it as a 'fun-fact' in Trivia? It offers no additional merit to the article.

Sourcing[edit | edit source]

Shortcut:
AC:POL/SRC

The following is the official Assassin's Creed Wiki Attribution policy. The main space of the Assassin's Creed Wiki is not a forum for personal or original thought. All and any information on the Wiki must be attributed to a verifiable source, the names of which are listed below.

In particular, editors must provide attribution for any material that is challenged or likely to be challenged, or it may be removed. The burden of evidence lies with the editor wishing to add or retain the material. If an article topic has no reliable sources, the Assassin's Creed Wiki should not have an article on it.

It must also be noted that the following policy applies only to the Wiki's main space articles, and not to the associated Forums or ACFanon:Home|Fan Section.

  1. ==Key principles==
  2. ===No original thought===

Original thought refers to material that is not attributable to a reliable, published source. This includes unpublished facts, arguments, ideas, statements, and personal opinion; as well as, by extension, unpublished analysis or synthesis of published material. It is forbidden to include such information, especially when accompanied with an introduction such as "This is pure speculation, but..."

All information on an article must be attributed to a reliable source, and any material added to articles must be explicitly presented in said source.

  1. ===Reliable sources as bases===

In order to be classed as a "reliable source", a medium must meet the following criteria;

  1. The medium must be published or endorsed by Ubisoft, and relate explicitly to the Assassin's Creed series.
  2. Information given on an official Ubisoft forum should only be considered canon when it is published by an administrator of the forum (who should subsequently be an employee of Ubisoft), and confirmed as fact in said post.
  3. Information given in any medium must explicitly indicate a view before it is entered into the article. Assumptions cannot be derived from stated or ambiguous data.

Speculation or "news" posted on popular gaming websites does not constitute a reliable source, and cannot be included unless supported by one of the above.

  1. ==Reliable sources==

Below is a non-exhaustive list of media that can be considered as reliable sources.

  1. ==General standards==

Once a source is found for the information to be added, the user who wishes to add the information must also cite it. However, a few key points must be observed before any information is placed into an article.

  1. ===Canonicity===

With the growing amount of material available to the Assassin's Creed series, the possibility of conflicting information is present. As such, the following assumptions should be made before information is entered into any of the articles on the Wiki;

  1. In most cases, the main games (as listed under the "Reliable sources" section) are the highest tier of canon. If any information given in another medium explicitly contradicts that given in these games, it is considered non-canon. For example, if Assassin's Creed: Renaissance states that it took an individual three days to travel from Venice to Florence, while Assassin's Creed II clearly indicates it only took two, the article will cite the game over the novella.
  2. The canonicity of media is tiered. The highest tier contains the aforementioned main games, while the second tier contains the spin-off games. The third tier contains the films, novellas, the Assassin's Creed Encyclopedia, and two comics, Assassin's Creed: The Fall and Assassin's Creed: The Chain. Finally, the fourth tier contains the remaining three comics.
  1. ===Introduction===

Sources must not be cited in the introduction or lead section of an article. Most if not all of the information in the introduction is mentioned again later in the article, and should be cited within the main text. This helps to limit congestion of the introductory text and keep the overall presentation respectable.

If, however, a sourced piece of information in the introduction is not mentioned again in the main text, it may be cited where required.

  1. ===Positioning===

  1. ==Formats==

Upon confirming that both the information and citations to be used are valid, the citations must be properly formatted in accordance with the formats listed below.

The formats needed for each citation shall differ based on whether an article possesses one or many references, and whether each reference is inserted within the article one or many times.

  1. ===Multiple references===

By standard, most articles require the citation of several different references. The format of each individual reference differs, based upon whether it is only used once within the article, or multiple times.

For the single insertion of a citation, the following format must be used;

<ref>''[[Assassin's Creed: Lineage]]''</ref>

For multiple insertions of the same citation, two separate formats must be used; one for the first insertion point, and one for all subsequent insertion points.

In this case, citations must also be named appropriately through the "ref name" parameter. A full list of the acronyms may be found on the "Variables" section of the Era template.

The following format is used in the first insertion point;

<ref name="Lineage">''[[Assassin's Creed: Lineage]]''</ref>

while the format below is for subsequent insertions points;

<ref name="Lineage" />
  1. ===Outside references===

Outside references, or those external to the Assassin's Creed series, should be kept to a minimum, and preferably only mentioned in the "Trivia" section of an article. The references must add something constructive to the article, and come from a source reliable in relation to the field it is from.

For example, if sourced from Wikipedia's article on The Prince, the line "Niccolò Machiavelli wrote The Prince, a book which seems to counter the very ideals of the Assassins." should be written as such;

[[Niccolò Machiavelli]] wrote ''The Prince'', a book which seems to counter the very ideals of the [[Assassins]].<ref>''{{Wiki|The Prince}}''</ref>
  1. ===Specified references===

In the case of subcategories of a source, such as the chapters of Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy or the numbered issues of Assassin's Creed: The Fall, the original source must first be listed, followed by the subcategory; as written below. The same method also applies for all instances of downloadable content.

<ref name="Project Legacy - Bartolomeo d'Alviano">''[[Assassin's Creed: Project Legacy]]'' - [[Italian Wars: Chapter 1 - Bartolomeo d'Alviano]]</ref>
  1. ===Reference list===

Whether the article makes use of multiple series references, multiple outside references, or a mixture of both, the "References" header must be included. At the bottom of the article, just before categories and appearance templates such as {{ACII}}, the following must be inserted;

==References==
{{Reflist}}
  1. ===Singular reference===

In the case of an article possessing only a single reference for its entirety, the formats listed previously do not apply. For this special case, neither <ref> citations nor the "References" header need be used; since citing every section with the same source would be unnecessary and time-consuming.

Instead, the bottom of the article must contain the single source under the "Reference" header, and may be written as such;

==Reference==
*''[[Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood]]'' - ''[[Copernicus Conspiracy]]''

Writing tense[edit | edit source]

Shortcut:
AC:POL/TNS

In the Assassin's Creed Wiki, we set the canon timeline as the latest known event in the timeline. So any and all events that have already occured must be written in a encyclopedial past tense instead of a narrative present tense.

Characters, locations, objects or events that still exist must be referred to in a present tense, as to not give the implication that they no longer exist by the time of the latest event in the series' timeline.

If you need help understanding Present Tense from Past Tense, or you're just having a blank, it is encouraged to read the guidelines that are written below;

  1. ===Past Tense===

The past tense is a verb tense (or sentence) expressing action, activity, state of being in the past of the current moment (in an absolute tense system), or prior to some other event, whether that is past, present, or future (in a relative tense system).

  1. ===Present Tense===

Present Tense is the tense that may be used to express:

  • action at the present
  • a state of being;
  • an occurrence in the (very) near future; or
  • an action that occurred in the past and continues up to the present.
  1. ===Examples:===

Past Tense:

 Ezio 'jumped' from one rooftop to the other, but 'missed' the ledge and 'fell' into a haystack.

Present Tense:

 Ezio 'jumps' from one rooftop to the other, but 'misses' the ledge and 'falls' into a haystack.
  1. ===Rules===
  • If an article is written in past tense, the text a user adds must also be written in past tense and vice versa.
  • Quotes must be kept in the tense they are written in. Regardless of the article's tense.
  • It is generally more accepted to write in past tense, unless you are writing about an event or battle.
  • Do not change articles to a tense of your choice, leave it as it is unless it is mixed with the two tenses.
