The Vault of Odysseus was a hidden complex beneath the Grand Temple of Apollo in the Sanctuary of Apollo in Delos, Greece. The chamber was used to store Odysseus' mythical bow and was eventually regarded as a legend by the local population by the later half of the Peloponnesian War.

After using his bow to reclaim his place as the rightful king of Ithaka,[1] Odysseus had the vault built under the Sanctuary of Apollo to store the weapon and hide it from those who wished to wield it due to its powerful strength. To prevent the vault from simply being opened and looted, he devised a lock puzzle with four statues of the Greek god.[2]
Millennia later, in 405 BCE, the Megarian adventurer Odessa sought to find it and recover the bow for herself since she claimed descent from the ancient hero. To that end, she asked her friend, the misthios Kassandra, for aid,[2] remembering how she had helped Odessa investigate her alleged family roots 26 years before.[3][4][5] According to the Spartan official Kastor, the vault was regarded as nothing more than local legend, to which Odessa replied that it indeed existed and that to open it, the Temple of Apollo's four statues adorned with wreaths, bows, and lyres had to match the ones in the vault.[2]
