The Valkyries were an elite unit of protectors utilized by the Æsir during the Isu Era to guard people and locations of high value. After the Great Catastrophe, the Valkyries were remembered in Norse mythology as an all-female group of psychopomps, believed to lead the spirit of fallen warriors to Valhalla.[3]

One notable Valkyrie was Hildr, who served as the Eden Ring Station's Chief Guardian[4] and Freyja's bodyguard; she would later enter into a secret relationship with her client.[1] All the while, the Station's staff had monitored the Sun's activity and projected that a coronal mass ejection would strike the Earth and cause an extinction event unless the energy was diverted or dispersed.[4]

She manipulated the Viking Eivor Varinsdottir, Odin's incarnation, into helping her find and unlock Odin's Vault so she could retrieve Hildr's armor, with which she attempted to kill Eivor to achieve her family's ancestral vengeance against Odin. However, Eivor defeated Hildr, who made amends with her after recognizing that she and Odin were nothing alike.[1]

In 2020, while the Assassin Layla Hassan relived Eivor's genetic memories, she added a number of Valkyrie-themed Animus mods to her Animus session which allowed Eivor to wear an armor set inspired by the spirits, decorate Ravensthorpe with Valkyrie statues, and display sails and other finery featuring the Valkyries aboard her longship, the Sea-Chariot.[3]
