The Argo was a ship used by the hero Jason and the Argonauts in Greek mythology. It was built by and named after its creator, together with the goddess Athena.
In the myth, the goddess carved the Argo's bow out of a single sacred oak from Dodona. After Jason and the Argonauts' expedition to fetch the Golden Fleece was completed, the Argo was dedicated to the god Poseidon, brought to the Isthmus of Poseidon in Korinthia, and left outside the god's temple in the Sanctuary of Isthmia.[1]
The remains of the Argo were still there by the time of the Peloponnesian War, when the Spartan misthios Kassandra visited them.[2]
