Milton (Old English: Middletun) is a village north of Cambridge in central England that has been settled since at least the 9th century.

History[edit | edit source]

By the early 870s, it had fallen into disrepair, becoming nearly abandoned. In 873, the Viking jarlskona Soma, after having been expelled from Grantebridge, briefly quartered her troops in the small settlement. Following Soma's successful retaking of the county from Palatinus Wigmund, Middeltun saw a major revitalization, becoming a significant trade hub.[1]
