I wanted to ask you something. Which is... what's your name?
This article title is conjecture. Although the article subject is canon, no official name for it has been given.
"I've heard that the Order has captured an Athenian general. He is integral to my plans. You'll need to free him and give him this letter."
―Darius to Kassandra, 420s BCE.[src]-[m]

An Athenian strategos (died 420s BCE) was in charge of military operations against the Spartan forces in Messenia during the Peloponnesian War.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In the 420s BCE, the general established contact with Darius after the latter arrived in Messenia to fight the Order of Dominion, who were helping the Spartans maintain control over the region. Sharing a common enemy, the general agreed to assist Darius, but was later captured by Spartan soldiers working for the Order.[1]

After being rescued by Darius' ally, the misthios Kassandra, the general was given a letter from Darius informing him of his intentions. The general then agreed to rally his forces to help Kassandra and Darius fight the Order, but first instructed Kassandra to deal with the Spartan fleet blockading Messenia, which had sunk countless Athenian ships. Once the misthios had done so,[2] the general upheld his end of the deal and met with Darius and Kassandra at the former's hideout in Aipeia to discuss the final details of their plan.[3]

After Kassandra and Darius lit several fires in the city to force the helots to flee and draw the Order's attention, the general arrived with his men and engaged the Order's forces. However, in the resulting fight, the Athenians were overwhelmed, and the general was killed when a Spartan soldier shot him with an arrow.[3]
