The image of Medusa on the shield seems to be inspired by a shield {{Wiki|Filippo Negroli}} made for [[Charles V, Holy Roman Emperor|Charles V]] in 1541. Medusa's Gaze was a shield bearing the image of Medusa, a gorgon featured prominently in Greek mythology.
During the 1st century BCE, the shield was bought by the Medjay Bayek of Siwa from the nomad merchant Reda.[1]
