Le Protée was one of 12 legendary ships encountered by the pirate Alonzo Batilla during the early 18th century.
A French slave ship, she brought African slaves from Senegal and the Kingdom of Whydah to the West Indies, and was protected by L'Alexandre.[1] The slave ship was eventually sunk in Los Mártires along with its Man O' War escort.[2]
