Jacques d'Arc (1380 – 1440) was a French doyen who collected taxes and organized Domrémy's defenses during Burgundian attacks in the Hundred Years' War. He is better known as the father of the French saint and hero Jeanne d'Arc.[1]
To ensure his town's safety, Jacques rented an old fortress on an island in the river as shelter for the townsfolk, their animals, and enough supplies. When attacks blocked the fortress, however, he lead them to the nearby Neufchâteau commune. Despite his active participation in the war, he refused to let his sons Jean and Pierre join.[2]
