Claimed by [[Portugal]] in April 1500, the land of Brazil was founded on the arrival of the Portuguese fleet, commanded by Pedro Álvares Cabral. There, the Portuguese encountered Stone Age natives divided into several tribes, most of whom spoke languages of the Tupi–Guarani family, and fought among themselves. Though the first settlement was founded in 1532, colonization was effectively begun in 1534, when King Dom João III of Portugal divided the territory into twelve hereditary captaincies.<ref name="Wikipedia">''{{Wiki|Brazil|Wikipedia entry}} on Brazil''</ref>

===Independence and empire===
After the Portuguese military had successfully repelled [[Napoleon Bonaparte]]'s invasion, the Portuguese government, guided by political regime that was imposed by the Liberal Revolution of 1820, attempted to turn Brazil into a colony once more. As it deprived Brazil of the achievements it had gathered since 1808, the Brazilians refused to yield and Prince Pedro stood by them, declaring the country's independence from Portugal on 7 September 1822.

On 12 October 1822, he was declared the first Emperor of Brazil and crowned Dom Pedro I on 1 December 1822. At that time, most Brazilians were in favor of a monarchy and republicanism had little support. The subsequent Brazilian War of Independence spread through almost the entire territory, with battles in the northern, north-eastern, and southern regions. The last Portuguese soldiers surrendered on 8 March 1824, and independence was recognized by Portugal on 29 August 1825.<ref name="Wikipedia"/>

===Contemporary era===
After three dictatorships throughout the centuries, the people finally returned to power in 1985, when José Sarney assumed the presidency. However, by the end of his term, he had become extremely unpopular due to the uncontrollable economic crisis and unusually high inflation. Despite this, after achieving economical stability within two decades and the peaceful transitions of power via Presidency, Brazil had finally succeeded in achieving its long-sought political stability.<ref name="Wikipedia"/>

Brazil, officially the Federative Republic of Brazil, is the largest country in South America. Originally a colony of Portugal starting from 1500, Brazil achieved its independence in 1822 with the formation of the Empire of Brazil.[1]

History[edit | edit source]

In the late 5th century BCE, through a projection of a map created by the Staff of Hermes Trismegistus, an Isu artifact was noted to be located in southeastern Brazil, north of what became the city of São Paulo in modern times.[2]

On 14 May 1501, Amerigo Vespucci reached Rio de Janeiro Bay and Rio de la Plata during his third voyage across the Atlantic Ocean.[3]

By 1719, the Templars had a safehouse located in Rio de Janeiro, which was used to store blood vials containing the blood of members of their Order, including Woodes Rogers and Benjamin Hornigold.[4] During the Seven Years' War, the Templar Shay Cormac sent troop filled ships to the cities of Santa-Maria-de-Belém and Rio de Janeiro in order to help further Templar influence in those cities.[5][6]

As of September 2012, an Assassin team was located in São Paulo. Secretly, there was a double agent in the team who was leaking their position to the Templars, which forced them to delay their progress and find the spy. After having done so successfully, they cut off contact with the Assassin headquarters and presumably moved to another city.[7]

Months later in December, the Assassin Desmond Miles visited São Paulo, in order to retrieve a power source for the Grand Temple, which was held by a rich woman spectating a mixed martial arts tournament. However, as he reached the room the woman resided in, Desmond discovered that the Templar agent Daniel Cross had killed her and taken the power source with him, prompting a chase between the two. Fortunately, Desmond was able to catch up to Daniel and retrieve the artifact after a fist-fight, before safely escaping on the subway.[8]
