The Mazalim Courts

The Mazalim Courts was a courthouse in the Round City of Baghdad, located in the Administrative District along with other key government buildings.

History[edit | edit source]

As an important Abbasid institution, the court was frequented by the Tahirid governor Muhammad ibn Tahir. It was for this reason that, in the 860s, the Hidden One Basim ibn Ishaq visited the court to locate the governor, who was suspected of having ties to the Order of the Ancients. While he did not find Muhammad, Basim bribed a judge, 'Adil ibn Munsif, for information and learned that the governor's messengers often travelled between the Mazalim Courts and his office at the Shurta Headquarters.[1]
