Reims is a city in France.
History[edit | edit source]
In the 1420s, Jeanne d'Arc heard voices telling her to take Dauphin Charles to Reims, where he would finally be crowned King of France.[1] After she helped break the Siege of Orléans, the Dauphin was pleased and at a meeting of his council and generals chose to listen to Jeanne and the the army began clearing the path for him to travel safely to Reims.[2]
On 17 July 1429,[3] Charles was crowned at Reims Cathedral and, though the English army had managed to steal much of the traditional regalia the night before, they could not take the cathedral nor the Holy Oil of Clovis, which was used to anoint all kings of France from 496 onwards.[4]
