Eh, not exactly; the scimitar design actually originated from the Ezio games (where it is called just a "Scimitar", or "Persian Shamshir" in Revelations), long before it was repurposed into the Dust sword in Identity.

Alif (born c. 1490) was a Moroccan member of the Italian Brotherhood of Assassins during the Renaissance.

Biography[edit | edit source]

Early life[edit | edit source]

Alif was a hot-headed Assassin who grew up in a small coastal village in what would later become Morocco. At the age of six, he was kidnapped by ruthless pirates and forced into life at sea. Immediately put to work as a cabin boy, he reluctantly learned the art of navigation while the ship and crew traveled across the Mediterranean Sea. Those harsh years forged him into a strong, impulsive, and bold young man.[1]

Joining the Assassins[edit | edit source]

At the age of seventeen, the pirates attacked what they believed was a Venetian freighter enroute to Constantinople. In reality, the ship was a decoy—heavily guarded by Venetian soldiers and commanded by a Doge captain. While Alif's fellow pirates were executed as an example, he managed to escape his fate by trapping the captain in a fishing net. Something in Alif's eyes—his rage and unyielding thirst for freedom—made the captain pause.[1]

Instead of condemning him, the captain recognized the raw potential in Alif and decided to redirect that energy. He spared Alif's life, trained him in the art of combat, and ultimately introduced him to the Brotherhood of Assassins in Rome. There, Alif proved his worth and displayed remarkable talent within the ranks.[1]

Personality and traits[edit | edit source]

Alif rarely concerned himself with subtlety in his missions for the Brotherhood. His incredible physical strength made him a formidable asset, while his audacity and fearless nature rendered him indispensable on high-risk operations. Though brash and often impulsive, Alif’s courage and determination earned him respect among his fellow Assassins—his presence often turning the tide in even the most chaotic of missions.[1]

Behind the Scenes[edit | edit source]

Alif is a playable character in the Roma expansion pack for the table top role-playing game, Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood of Venice. Alif's scimitar is based on the Scimitar from Assassin's Creed II.
