Janos in Derinkuyu

Janos was an Ottoman spy posted in Cappadocia, at Derinkuyu, by the Janissary captain Tarik Barleti. His orders were to spy on the activities of Manuel Palaiologos and his followers.

In March 1512, he was amongst those who were captured by the Turkmen renegade Shahkulu, and was badly beaten until the Assassin Ezio Auditore da Firenze intervened and killed Shahkulu, saving Janos.[1]
