Achiakos (died 404 BCE) was a thief who served "The Nightjar" in late fifth century BCE Athens. He was known for his love of gambling and would ask his boss for loans in order to continue playing.

Biography[edit | edit source]

In 404 BCE, Achiakos and the other thieves under the Nightjar supplied the Athenian general Thrasybulus with weapons, earning the attention of Thrasybulus' enemy Critias. One of Critias' informers tracked Achiakos to a gambling den and Critias ordered the misthios Kassandra to follow Achiakos back to their headquarters. Kassandra met with Achiakos and beat him in a game of chance, causing him to be upset and leave. Achiakos unknowingly led Kassandra to the thieves' den and to the Nightjar, wishing to ask him for more money to gamble away. He was then killed by Kassandra along with the other thieves.[1]
