Comments[edit source]

Schmee, your final comment here was, quite frankly, rude to anybody who read it. First and foremost you should realise that as a Wiki, we are not associated with Ubisoft, Darby or anybody tied with Ubisoft in any way, and as such we are not obliged to accept the opinions of anybody who works for them. Your accusations that we are being "stubborn", or that we are in some way incapable of understanding the opinions a higher being, are insulting.

There is a difference between what a writer puts in the game, and what a writer wants to put in a game. Just because Darby is of the opinion that we should use a particular image over another does not mean we have to, and you continued attempts to argue that we should submit have in fact had the opposite effect, in that the chances of that happening are now extremely slim.

Please take a moment to think about how you approach the community when you want a change to be made (or how you respond to a comment). Discussing it in a civil manner is the way forward; demanding we accept another person's views is not. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 16:41, November 25, 2013 (UTC)

I accept that I was a tad cheeky, yeah. But given Kain's aggressive attitude (not just in that topic, but in both discussions with me and other people in the past), it was difficult for me not to get overly annoyed at him. He likes to throw out personal insults whenever he sees the opportunity.
And yes I know the wiki isn't related specifically to Ubisoft, however in my opinion fans should always follow what the creators deem correct. Isn't that the point of the wiki? To accurately portray the information from the game as best as possible? After all, what is the game without its creators? Without its writers? It's nothing, everything else on this wiki conforms and submits to the writers' viewpoints, because they created them. Why should this be any different? He is a higher authority on the subject, so in my view his opinion matters most. I know if I created something and people completely missed the point of it, I'd be pretty annoyed by it.
My "stubborn" remark was honestly more related to Kain, not you. You seemed willing to talk things out, as were a few others. Kain has shown in the past (and continues to show to this day) that he's incapable of discussing things reasonably and is too stubborn to allow his point of view to change.
Also, the main image used for Mary is absolutely hideous. If you're unwilling to use one that reflects her gender identity (which I still believe is disrespectful - it certainly would be if she were a real person), then can you at least use one that doesn't make her look like she just crawled through a sewer?
None of this is supposed to be cheeky, by the way. Just wanted to clarify that in case I come across abrasively. LordSchmee (talk) 17:18, November 25, 2013 (UTC)
I completely agree with you that the current image is horrible, but for the time being it's the best render we have. The issue here is that, whilst Darby is the lead writer for the series, there is a difference between what he writes and what is canon. Not everything he writes gets put into the final product (which makes the missing points non-canon), and likewise, his every opinion is not canon.
Darby likely has an opinion about who the best protagonist is (in his eyes). Are we suppose to be saying that "Ezio is more awesome than Connor, because." from now on?
Also, your point about her gender identity is, in my opinion, flawed. Mary is hiding her identity purely to facilitate a career as a pirate, not because she's a 'man born in a women's body' or any such tripe; as such, it makes no difference which persona's image we use, and it certainly isn't disrespectful to any digital, non-real video game character. --Jasca Ducato Council Chamber Assassination record 17:26, November 25, 2013 (UTC)
Can we not at least, then, use an image of her that isn't a render? I'm sure it's been done on other pages. A nice HQ image of just her.
No, but there's a difference there. In the case of Mary, he's using his knowledge of his character to decide what he feels suits her more. In your example, it's a literal case of "I like them most".
Not really. Again, if you look back at her history it has nothing to do with her pirate life. She was warped by her mother at a young age, a very young age. She lived as a male from childhood through to adulthood. She only ever revealed her sex, reluctantly, upon fear of death. And if you see how she acts when she isn't deceiving people (even when dressed as a woman) she acts far more like a male than a female (case in point - the unmanning line). That is very definitely a male gender identity. LordSchmee (talk) 17:33, November 25, 2013 (UTC)
