Hey Kaikai, I just wanted to clarify that (fl. 47 BCE – 30 BCE) does not mean he died in that year, only that that was the year of his last appearance in documented material. Fl., short for floruit is used professionally in this manner to denote the range of years that an individual is known to have existed or been active even if he is known to not have died in that year. This is explained in the Manual of Style. Translation help

Hello Kaikai, I noticed that you are an editor from the Chinese Wiki. There are a few terms from Dynasty I would like to ask your help in translating, if you do not mind.

First is 移春檻. Our current article title for that is "Yichunkan", based on the pinyin, but I think for this subject, it is awkward to leave it as that in English. I would like to rename it to a translated name. The official English publication uses "Shifting Springs", but because they already have many errors in translation elsewhere, our team has already decided not to rely on them. I think "Shifting Springs" does sound nice in English, but it leaves out the 檻, and I wonder if our Chinese audience wouldn't like that.

Here are my ideas:

• "Bouquet of Shifting Spring" – this sounds the best in English out of all the options, but it deviates from the meaning of 檻.
• "Basket of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Basket"
• "Cage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cage"
• "Carriage of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Carriage"
• "Wagon of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Wagon"
• "Cart of Shifting Spring" or "Shifting Spring Cart"

Otherwise, the other term I need help with is 花魁. My understanding is that this is the grand prize of the contest, but I have found it challenging to render accurately into English. "Flower prize" sounds too plain. It can be hard to find the right fit between two languages because they need to sound good in both. I often cross-reference between English and Chinese dictionaries for terms, looking at their etymologies, history, and connotations to try to find the best fit. Baidu's article for 魁 mentions at the end: 「由这个意思引申为首领、领头人，统、统领的意思。后又引申为居第一位，也泛指最优者。」 I have used "flower crown" or "crown of flowers" because in English, crown on occasions can be used by extension to refer to a prize, to the head of something, the best of something, and of course to the sovereign. The winner of certain social events like a homecoming dance or prom might be called 'homecoming king/queen' or 'prom king/queen', and in Chapter 1, Li Bai uses the term 「奪冠」 for winning the contest. So I thought to myself, maybe I can use crown more creatively and metaphorically here as a link, but I think even some English speakers might find this a bit confusing.

I think the input of another Chinese speaker would definitely be helpful here. So please let me know what you think. If you have any other different suggestions to translate 移春檻 and 花魁, feel welcome to give them as well! :) Sol Pacificus^(Cyfiero) 03:03, 11 June 2021 (UTC)

Hello Kaikai,
Thanks for cleaning up the minor errors and link changes in the podcast page so far! I clearly missed those. However, since you've made a dozen minor edits all within the space of 1 hour, might I suggest just proofreading it and doing one larger edit instead of continually tweaking and saving then tweaking again? Just would make it more efficient for you and would also not fill the Recent Activity feed.
