French translations of Dynasty

Hello Blue-Castle, I was wondering if you happen to be following Assassin's Creed: Dynasty. There are some Chinese names and terms in that comic which as of now, I cannot know what they would be officially translated into in English. This makes me nervous when I have to create an article like Yichunkan or Flower Festival. I am assuming they will translate yichunkan, and that the name of the competition is not as generic as just "flower festival". In any case, if you happen to have the French versions of the early chapters to Dynasty, would you mind letting me know what are some of the terms and names that they have used? Hey! Well, for the flower festival it's "Banquet des Fleurs" in French and for "Yichunkan", if I understand correctly, it refers to the cortege of Guozhong that wins the festival, so it might be "Fleurs des Mille Printemps" in French. Blue-castle (talk) 07:29, 11 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you so much, that is really helpful! Do you also happen to know what they call the building that Yang Guozhong's flower team is invited into after they win? I translated it as "Hua'e Tower", but tower isn't exactly an accurate English translation of the Chinese word. The Chinese word for that classification of building doesn't exist in English. There's also "Chenxiang Pavilion", where Li E kills the entire gang. I'm not sure I translated that name correctly either. Sol Pacificus^(Cyfiero) 06:58, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

I'm not sure, but they are invited to go to the "Pavillon des fleurs" after the winning, in a palace named "palais du roi dragon". And Li E kills people at the "pavillon des bois odorants". ;) Blue-castle (talk) 20:27, 12 April 2021 (UTC)

Oh these are interesting although it makes me concerned about how loose they are with translating the names. I found a random Chinese tourism site which translated 花萼樓 as "Calyx Building" which sounds so weird LOL. I guess that's why they simplified it from calyx to flower but now it sounds so unoriginal because it's already a "flower festival". 花萼 really means sepal while I would say 樓 is kind of like a building that has two or more floors and is also spacious and/or has many rooms. In this case, pavilion is probably the best translation, but what can make it confusing is that the gazebo where Li E kills those men is also being translated as a pavilion because in English and I guess French as well a gazebo is a type of small pavilion? The Chinese name for that gazebo literally means "Submerged in Fragrance Gazebo", but I guess that's too wordy. As for the palace, its name literally means "Prosperous Celebratory Palace", nothing to do with dragons or kings. It seems like they just made-up an entirely different name for that, which I think is a cause for concern. Usually historians still try to give an accurate translation of the names of these buildings even if they sound a little awkward outside of Chinese.

When the French edition of volume 2 is released, the most important thing to keep an eye out for is the name of Alianna. "Alianna" is the Mandarization of this character's name, which would most likely be Alina. In French and English, it will be more faithful to the real Arabic or Persian name due to the phonetic nature of their writing system. I cannot wait to correct it as soon as possible, especially since I don't want people to internalize "Alianna" as her name. They'll most likely misread it as four syllables "ah-lee-an-na", and therefore know her name wrong. Sol Pacificus^(Cyfiero) 19:27, 19 April 2021 (UTC)

It has been years since I have studied French and though I think this would easily be "Flowers of the Thousand Springs", I just wanted to make sure there isn't any mistake.
