Well, you can (SPOILERS) leave the Animus anytime you want and move around Monteriggioni using Desmond. I don't do much outside the Animus other than read e-mails, talk to the crew, and talk to Altair's statue...Yeah, Des lets out a racist quote every time he faces his ancestors statue (Hey, wats-a-matta you, Altair?) xD
