Nobody takes into account how pathetically easy it would just be for Abstergo to organize a dig, and go around the vault door with modern equipment. Everyone saw that the library itself just had a door made out of unusal material, walls were regular. Why the Byzantines didn't just dig around either is a bigger mystery.
