There's a large chance we don't play as Altaïr at all and only get to see him. The only relationship with Altaïr is that Ezio is walking in his footsteps. There's no mention how the game will play as Altaïr, only that you can somehow modify Demond's memories and how you can play as Ezio. But nothing else of Altaïr is revealed.
