Actually it wasn't only the names that changed the Romans took the Greek gods and "Romanized" them. The Roman gods were more warlike than the Greek gods and they stood for stuff like discipline, honor, strength, the kind of stuff that kept an empire together. The Roman gods had different attributes and personalities than the Greek gods.
