I'm not sure how historically acurate it is, but I was watching the most recent Robin Hood movie (featuring Russell Crowe) last night, which took place in 1199, 8 years after the first Assassin's Creed, and they had crossbows in that movie, so if it's accurate, Altair could very well have a crossbow in Revelations.
