This is for you outsider

The American civil war happened when the southern states seceded from the north for several reasons.

1. After Lincoln won the presidential election, he planned to impose taxes that would directly hurt the south

2. The southern states wanted to keep their slaves, while slavery was prohibited in the north.

3. The Northern and Southern parts of the countries had been estranged from the beginning, and had different ideas as to how America should tame the remainder of the Frontier. So the war was largely fought for the West

At first when the Southern states seceded, the North did nothing to stop them, since there was no law against it. But the conflict began when the North refused to abandon one southern fort, known as Fort Sumter, a siege began on the Fort and the North retreated after running out of supplies. By then, Lincoln was president and there was no turning back for the South. It really isn't a war worth learning about since that was the only interesting thing that happened until President Lincoln was assassinated by John Wilkes Booth after the South had already been conquered. But that is pretty much a full summary of the war's causes.

So, in conclusion, the civil war would be a bad place for AC, the only way it could work in ubi's favor (in my opinion) is if they skipped the actual conflict and set the game before the American civil war.
