Assassins
1. Altaïr, no question about it. He dedicated his whole life to the Order.
2. Ezio, for he was not bound by the same discipline as Altaïr, nor the same code of honour, and it showed. Especially the older he got.
3. What could be a sign of a live well lived if not dying with a smile on your lips, at the end of the road you chose?
Whereas Altaïr resigned to his fate, and could be even said to have mourned the life he ended up living, a life dedicated to the Order and the Creed... Ezio ended up choosing to live his own life, a life dedicated to no one and nothing but himself and those he loved.
As for the others... for some, we don't know yet the circumstances of their deaths, the life preceding them. For some, what we do know is that their ends weren't of their own choosing, nor their lives beforehand. And as for Desmond... pawn to the end, and seeming to barely even realize it himself. *shakes head*
Templars
1. Daniel. Driven mad under the gentle care of Vidic, he infiltrated the Assassins and delivered one of the most damaging blows to their organization that we currently know of. He went on to train others, and continued to serve the Templars to the bitter, stupid end of his life.
2. Rodrigo, Haytham and Alan... so hard to choose. Each of them have their own merits, shared being that during their 'reigns' the Templars' power and influence expanded unbelievably. So I'll have to choose one of the magnificent bastards... and that'll be Rodrigo. Ruthless, cunning, with his goal clear in sight, it's easy to see whence Cesare got his charming characteristics, no doubt further reinforced by the example Rodrigo set.
3. Perhaps Charles Lee. Everyone else, far as we know, pursued a life of conquers and victories, dying miserably in the end, fighting to the last. But Charles? Sure, the bastard ran. But when death caught up with him, he shared a drink with it and accepted it.
Which one...?
Of the two sides of the coin, I shall dance on the edge. Always and ever.
