In Ancient Egypt, the medjay Bayek of Siwa sought to hunt down the Order of the Ancients that had killed his son Khemu. Along with his wife Aya, the two formed a creed with some of their friends and allies known as the Hidden Ones that eventually formed into the Assassins of today.

As the Vikings from Norway and Denmark expanded into England, they had been affiliated with the Hidden Ones, who had settled with the Raven Clan. During her travels, the shieldmaiden Eivor Varinsdottir eradicated England of the Order of the Ancients alongside both her brother and the Hidden Ones. Meanwhile, she also struggled to deal with the voice in her head, the All-Father Odin himself.

During the Seven Years War, the Colonial Assassins, led by Achilles Davenport, sided with the French. However, after mistakes on Achilles' behalf, former Assassin Shay Cormac goes rogue and turns against the Assassins, dealing a significant amount of damage to the Brotherhood.
During the French Revolution, a peace was sought between the leaders of both the Assassins and the Templars. However, when a de facto group of Templars rose and killed the previous leader, peace was no longer an option. Arno Dorian, the adopted son of the deceased Templar, sought to get revenge on his adopted father's killers, though his relationship with the French Assassins made things difficult.
