Events[edit source]
What are the rules for what gets added to this navbox? Like, every single event ever mentioned or shown in AC or just significant ones? Because the events in the navbox aren't all of the event pages on the wiki. V i l k a T h e W o l f (talk) 03:43, May 31, 2020 (UTC)
- You ask a pretty important question because as far as I know, there are none. :( I don't think it has ever been discussed. It seems like in the old days, no one really cared about articles on events, so this topic was always left forgotten in the side-lines. In reality, articles on events are probably some of the most important ones for our wiki because they link together everything else. I've also noticed that our organization for event pages are a total mess. Well, since you brought this topic up, would you like to be the first to suggest some guidelines for this? :P Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 04:55, May 31, 2020 (UTC)
- Sure, first point is the most obvious - events that are actually shown in any AC media need a place in the navbox. I'll actually play around in my sandbox for a sec. I'll do up a Timeline Navbox that features only events fully shown in AC, and another navbox with every single event. We'll see what looks neater. - Okay, this is after a little playing around. It could be messier.
Regarding guidelines;
- Events that are directly portrayed in Assassin's Creed be added
- Events that are indirectly mentioned shouldn't be added
- However, most of the events from the Glyphs, Rifts, and Abstergo Files give us important lore-insights into 20th century templar conspiracies so they should stay
- Events that have Database entries written about them should be added
- Events that are mentioned in Database can be added if the mention is significant enough.
- Similarly to Database entries, events that are also portrayed/mentioned in Discovery Tour deserve to be added also.V i l k a T h e W o l f (talk) 07:00, May 31, 2020 (UTC)
- This sounds like a good start, though we'll have to see more specifically what will end up being included and excluded to be sure. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 18:56, May 31, 2020 (UTC)
One of the reasons why I think that the current way timeline articles are organized is a total mess is because wars and battles are organized on the same plane as one another. What I mean is that we would have one article leading from a war to a battle then to a theatre within a war then to a group of wars, etc. I'm not saying that this exact sequence can be found in our organization, but it's just to give a general sense of what I had meant by a mess. Looking at the navboxes, I think it's especially clear that we need to organize different tiers of events based on how broad or narrow they are. For example, we have so many events of the French Revolution listed on there, probably too many. Sol Pacificus(Cyfiero) 21:35, May 31, 2020 (UTC)
- To provide some background, back when the series wasn't as vast as it is now we had a lot of timeline and event articles that were not quite needed, a portion of which we eventually voted to have removed as they contained a lot of superfluous information that was identical to information found on various other pages on the wiki, or their existence was dubious, such as one character sneaking into a fort or a minor fight between two people. As for why all the event pages are not on this template, I do not know why that is. If there is a page for them on the wiki, I don't see why they would not all be in the template, as it will just improve navigational purposes. -- Master Sima Yi Talk 11:04, June 1, 2020 (UTC)
