Deletion[edit source]

I'll make a note here, since it would be impractical to make duplicate comments on the various battleground articles. I do not believe we need these articles at all–even in circumstances where the story takes us there–because their is little to actually state in the article. The vast majority of these articles consist of a single line:

"The Battleground of [XXX] was the site of a battle in the [YYY] region of [ZZZ], Greece during the Peloponnesian War."

This can be inferred fro the name alone, as does not require an article explaining as such. What's more, the point of interest for most readers would not be the location of the battle, but the battle itself. For exmaple, the Battleground of Megaris versus the Battle of Megara. The latter article makes the existence of the former redundant.

Furthermore, I am concerned that these articles set a dangerous precedent for the creation of articles about battlegrounds in past and future games. --Jasca Ducato (talk | contributions) 12:19, June 27, 2019 (UTC)

I'd agree...if these were conjectural. But as it is... it's in-game, it should be on this wiki. Sadelyrate (siniath) 19:34, June 28, 2019 (UTC)
I've taken issue with these articles since day one because aside from the fact that they should normally be directed to articles about the actual battles, we have to identify when certain gameplay elements are merely gameplay elements and not at all canonical. Case in point, with the novel already taking precedence over the game (although not absolutely), the game's depiction of the course of the Peloponnesian War would be nonsensical if taken so literally. The Spartans did not have "conquest battles" simultaneously with the Athenians all across Greece, and they did not have the force to hold onto these regions while spread so thin apart. (I suppose an argument might be made that we're not necessarily meant to imagine that all these arenas of conflict happened concurrently, but I still protest the inaccurate depiction of the war). They were heavily constrained by their dependence on helot labour and fears of their revolt to return home every year when it was time for planting and for harvest. Because of this, for the first years of the war, their campaigns mostly consisted of raiding Athenian territory for the better half of a year rather than holding onto territory. They might have tried to hold onto places like Megara or Boeotia, but not far-flung islands like Crete or Thasos.
The fact that these articles were originally written with the line "Kassandra participated in a conquest battle" where Conquest Battle is a gameplay term further calls attention to the author's confusion with a gameplay mechanic and actual lore. If something is a gameplay mechanic, it is not necessarily canonical, and that is my main issue. Although we cannot be absolutely certain that most of these battlegrounds are only there for gameplay purposes and aren't meant to be taken as canonical, I think it would be safer not to have these unnecessary articles.
With that having been said, even if all of these battlegrounds are canonical, I think if we are to have them, we can merge them all into one page as we have done with the Borgia Towers and the Stone Circles. Lacross had initially brought up the issue that a few of these battlegrounds are canonical when they served as part of the story. This does not mean that all of them are, but in any case, for the ones which are certainly canonical, their information should be taken to articles about the battles themselves.
