Summer/winter residence[edit source]

Wasn't Alamut said to be the summer or winter residence of the Assassins, and then they switched over to Masyaf for the other half of the year? If so, shouldn't it be on the Assassins page as part of their locations in the Middle Ages? Slate Vesper 14:17, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

I don't recall that being said anywhere. -- Master Sima Yi 14:20, May 4, 2012 (UTC)

Further Reading[edit source]

Hey guys, long time no see.

If anyone's looking for further reading about Alamut, I found a rather interesting article regarding its early history under historical Hashashin rule. It's a summary of historic fact instead of part of the AC canon, but it's a good read nonetheless:

Levantine?[edit source]

Are we sure that the branch of Assassins in Alamut was considered Levantine? Certainly, it was closely related seeing that in real-life, it and the other fortresses in the Levant were officially of one state. As well, certainly the Levantine branch was derived from them. However, Alamut is not actually in the Levant, being in northern Persia. Moreover, in at least one source (i.e. Assassin's Creed: Official Game Guide, which while not the most reliable source, being low in priority on the canonicity scale, is still a canon source for lore if it doesn't contradict anything), it is explained that Al Mualim was sent from Alamut to establish his own branch in Masyaf due to ideological differences with the Mentor of Alamut, apparently possibly owing to Al Mualim's secret lust for power. Sounds like a bit of a conundrum. I was aware of the fact that, historically, the Assassins in Masyaf were more or less autonomous from, although still subordinate to, the ones in Alamut, which was their main headquarters and the capital of their state. I think it depends on what the Encyclopedia and The Essential Guide have to say on the matter, specifically as to whether or not they identify Hassan-i Sabbāh as having specifically been the leader of the Levantine branch, despite residing and operating primarily in Persia.
