The Statue of Theagenes was an enshrined statue in the agora of Thasos City, depicting the famous Olympic athlete Theagenes of Thasos who lived during the 5th century BCE.
By the time of the Peloponnesian War, the statue was inscribed with a symbol[1] that was part of a set needed to unlock the seal to the Isu city Atlantis.[2] As part of his research, the Athenian sculptor Phidias requested the Spartan misthios Kassandra to locate the symbol on the statue, and return to him with her findings.[3]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The statue in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey is based on the Boxer at Rest sculpture. However, this is anachronistic as the Boxer at Rest sculpture was made at some point between c. 330 and 50 BCE.
The same statue is also reused as a generic statue throughout the Greek world in Assassin's Creed: Odyssey, including within the city of Argos.[4]
