Saint Albanes Abbey
Saint Albanes Abbey, also known as the Abbey of St. Albanes, was an Anglo-Saxon abbey dedicated to Saint Alban in Oxenefordscire, then part of the Kingdom of Mercia. During the late 9th century, it was led by the abbot Dalberre.[1]
Circa 874, Lady Eadwyn, the wife of the late ealdorman of Oxenefordscire, Theodric, had the Flemish scholar Fulke imprisoned in a chamber beneath the abbey for her supposed heretic interpretations of Christ. Fulke's whereabouts were later discovered by the jarl Sigurd Styrbjornsson of the Raven Clan and the Hidden One Basim, who sought her knowledge regarding a relic known as the Saga Stone. Later on, aided by Sigurd's adoptive sister Eivor Varinsdottir, the three raided the abbey and freed Fulke from her cell.[2]
During the raid, Eivor also looted raw materials and cargo needed to upgrade the clan's settlement of Ravensthorpe, in addition to recovering a clue linked to a member of the Order of the Ancients known only as "The Anvil".[1]
