Roberto
- "As for Capitano Roberto, he drinks so much he's like a bottle of Chianti dressed in a uniform!"
- ―A guard commenting on Roberto, 1477.[src]
Captain Roberto was the captain of the guard in San Gimignano until 1478.
Biography[edit | edit source]
In his youth, Roberto was a soldier and a good friend to Mario Auditore, though they lost contact when Roberto entered the employ of the Pazzi while Mario refused to do so. In 1477, as Ezio Auditore da Firenze sought Vieri de' Pazzi, his uncle Mario told him he should find Roberto and get information from him, telling him that at that time of night he was probably drinking in a tavern or already drunk and sleeping it off. Eventually finding the drunk man surrounded by other guards in a square, Ezio approached him, telling him he was Mario's nephew.[1]
Roberto ordered him captured, but seeing his men surrounded by mercenaries, gave up on that idea. After his men were handcuffed and moved to the dungeon, Roberto was sat at a table with a new wine bottle to talk to Ezio, where he decided to tell the younger man everything he knew about Vieri's whereabouts.[1] Roberto was later expelled from San Gimignano as the Pazzi conspirators took refuge in the city.[2]
