The butler to Honoré Mirabeau, the Assassin Mentor of the Parisian Brotherhood, served with his family for two generations.
Biography[edit | edit source]
When Mirabeau moved to Paris, he personally requested that his butler accompany him to continue serving him. Once, when the butler's daughter had fallen ill, the count paid for her medicine himself. Apart from this, the butler's salary was twice that of the market wage. For reasons such as these, he was greatly devoted to him.[1]
On the morning of Mirabeau's murder, 2 April 1791, the butler was attending to that week's wine delivery to the estate. His task began at 04:00 and took many hours because of its size, so he had not yet been upstairs that day when his master was poisoned in his bedroom by the Assassin Pierre Bellec in retaliation for accommodating the Templar Élise de la Serre. When Élise arrived later, the butler allowed her into the residence, whereupon she went upstairs and discovered Mirabeau's body. She was followed by her childhood friend, the Assassin Arno Dorian, who immediately began questioning the individuals at the premises. The butler gave his truthful alibi, noting also that he had not seen anyone else go upstairs apart from Élise. He was able to identify the handkerchief Arno found at the crime scene as belonging to the maid, Émilie, and he directed Arno to find her at the market although she was not the culprit.[1] That night, Arno confronted Bellec at Sainte-Chapelle and slew him in mortal combat.[2]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
In Assassin's Creed: Unity (2014), the butler is one of the suspects for Honoré Mirabeau's murder, which the main protagonist Arno Dorian investigates in "Meeting with Mirabeau". Like the other false suspects, if the player wrongly accuses him, he will be appalled and react defiantly, but the player will otherwise not be penalized. Although his angry response has lines revealing more about his background, which can be taken as canonical, the canonicity of his actual speaking of the lines is unclear, for it cannot be known if Arno ever falsely accuses him canonically.
