John Sheffield, 1st Duke of Buckingham and Normanby (1647 – 1721), was an English poet and Tory politician.

Sheffield had a private residence built, the then-called Buckingham House. After his death, King George III purchased the residence in 1761 as a gift for his wife, Queen Charlotte.[1]
