Jeanne de Béthune, Viscountess of Meaux

Jeanne de Béthune (c. 1397 – c. 1450) was a French noblewoman and the suo jure Viscountess of Meaux, her second husband was John II of Luxembourg.

Biography

In May of 1430, her husband had Jeanne d'Arc captured and imprisoned, she was then sent to Beaurevoir to be held. During the time Jeanne was imprisoned de Béthune was one of the women who cared for her, eventually growing fond of the girl. Although she had asked her husband not to give her over to the English, this would fall on deaf ears.

Jeanne de Béthune is a historical figure who was indirectly mentioned in the 2016 novel, Assassin's Creed: Heresy written by Christie Golden. She is only referred to as "John's wife."
