Dour Gate

The Dour Gate was part of the ancient fortification of London built by the Romans in the early 3rd century, when Great Britain was a province of the Roman Empire. By the time of the Great Heathen Army occupation of the city in the 9th century, the gate was one of the last remaining still standing.
In 873, the following Eivor Varinsdottir's defeat of the Frankish captain and Order of the Ancients member Vicelin, she met the reeves Erke Bodilsson and Stowe by the gates to discuss the aftermath of the city siege.[1]
Behind the scenes[edit | edit source]
The Dour Gate is based on Dowgate which was a Roman gate that probably guarded the entrance to the city via the River Walbrook, though in game it is not placed directly on the river.[2]
Also the gate doesn't have actual Roman gate design but is instead based on the Triumphal Arch of Orange.
