Douglas Elton Fairbanks Sr. (23 May 1883 – 12 December 1939) was an American actor and filmmaker who contributed largely to the success of Hollywood movies in their early days.[1] The 1926 silent film he starred in, The Black Pirate, was the first major Hollywood pirate film made.[2]

Legacy[edit | edit source]

Remembered for his impact on Hollywood films and pop culture, Douglas Fairbanks was mentioned by the Abstergo Entertainment Chief Creative Officer Olivier Garneau in 2013 to their newly hired research analyst, who was tasked with reliving the memories of Edward Kenway the pirate. Garneau explained consumer's fascination with pirates and how it was how Hollywood got its start, with the pirate films of Fairbanks and his eventual successor Errol Flynn.[3]
