Database: Maria Thorpe (Rebellion)
Bold Crusader
Born an English noblewoman during the twelfth century, Maria Thorpe was a strong and rebellious woman who did not adhere to the social norms of her time.
Disgraced after an annulled marriage, she disguised herself as a man to join the Third Crusade, seeking glory. In the Holy Land, she distinguished herself and caught the attention of Templar Grand Master Robert de Sablé, who made her his personal steward.
Altaïr met Maria when she acted as Robert's decoy in Jerusalem. After Robert's death at Altaïr's hand, Maria's position within the Templars destabilized and she grew disillusioned with their philosophy. She then established an uneasy alliance with Altaïr to help him bring down the new Grand Master, Armand Bouchart, and seek the Templar Archive of Precursor information and artifacts.
Maria ultimately chose to leave the Templar Order. After their adventures together, Maria and Altaïr grew romantically involved; they married, and he admitted her into the Brotherhood, a move that shocked more conservative Assassins.
